Week 3 kicks off in Duval County where the Jacksonville Jaguars will look to score their first win of the season against the division rival Titans. Tennessee enters this tilt off laying an egg at home against the Indianapolis Colts whom they fell to 19-17 as 3-point favorites. The final result came as quite the surprise when you consider just how dominant Mike Vrabel’s squad looked the opening week in Cleveland when they took the Browns out behind the proverbial woodshed and served up a good ‘ol fashioned beating. Jacksonville got its salad tossed the opening week of the season at home by the Kansas City Chiefs, but bounced back nicely with a solid semblance of itself in a hard fought defeat against the Texans in Houston.
This division rivalry has been swept by the Titans each of the last two seasons. Tennessee logged the ugly 9-6 outright win as 10-point underdogs in their trip to TIAA Bank Field, and then followed it up with a dominating 30-9 skunking of the Jags later in the season in the game Derrick Henry went HAM with 238 rushing yards and 4 TD.
Sunday Night Football should offer up a doozy when Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams venture into FirstEnergy Stadium to square off against Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns. Freddie Kitchens’ squad received a ton of hype ad nauseum over the course of the offseason, and then went out and got destroyed by the Titans in the season opener. If ever there was a stage for the Browns to redeem themselves on, this is it! While LA hasn’t looked nearly as dominant as it did last season through its first two games, Cleveland gave NFL bettors a glimpse of what the rest of the season could look like for the Browns after smashing the overmatched Jets on Monday Night football. Even so, NFL bettors have flooded the market with Rams money in early betting.
This will be the first meeting between these franchises since 2015. Los Angeles is 4-1 SU and ATS over the last five skirmishes dating back to 1999. The Rams check in 8-2 SU and 6-4 ATS in their last 10 road games dating back to last season, while the Browns have gone 3-1-1 SU and 4-1 ATS the last five times they went off the betting board dogged in front of the “Dawg Pound.”
Closing the week out will be the Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. Da Bears just scored an exhilarating last second win in Denver to log their first win of the regular season, while the Skins just got done feeling the wrath of the Dallas Cowboys new-look offense to fall to 0-2 SU and 1-1 ATS on the young season. Injuries, suspensions and holdouts have already ended Washington’s season that’s still in its infancy. How Case Keenum deals with a Bears defense that once again looks to be one of the best the league has to offer will go a long way in deciding the final outcome of this one. But if Chicago’s offense continues upon the inefficient path its traveled the first two weeks of the season, anything can happen.
The Bears should win this one going away, but the betting market hasn’t seen it that way, In fact, it’s Washington and not Chicago that’s received a bulk of the handle and money in early wagering. Is it simply a case of recency bias with the Redskins 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings dating back to 2004, or is there more than meets the eye?
