Mississippi Rebels College Football Betting

The Ole Miss Rebels had their credibility shot when they were upset at home by the Kentucky Wildcats. Ole Miss was touted as being SEC championship material, but that has been questioned since the debacle against the Wildcats. Since that loss, Ole Miss won a road game against the South Carolina Gamecocks and lost an away matchup against the LSU Tigers, followed by a bye week. This week, the Rebels are fresh off a bye week and hosting one of the biggest brands in college football. The Oklahoma Sooners are imploding in their first season as members of the SEC.

In Week 9 college football action, on Saturday, October 26, 2024, the Mississippi Rebels will host the Oklahoma Sooners at Vaught Hemmingway Stadium in Oxford, MS. Kickoff time is set for noon ET and television coverage on ESPN.

Ole Miss will get plenty of consideration as the home team with potentially good betting on college football using crypto value because of Oklahoma having power brand blue blood status.

Last game, the Oklahoma Sooners lost 35-9 against the South Carolina Gamecocks as 1-point home dogs. The game went over the total of 40. Oklahoma has a record of 4-3 straight up, 3-4 against the spread, and 3-4 over/under the total. OU ranks 128th for total offense, 116th for passing, 113th for rushing and 107th for scoring. Defensively they rank 32nd overall, 64th against the pass, 27th against the rush, and 42nd for points allowed. Also, Oklahoma ranks 85th for fewest turnovers lost and 56th for takeaways.

Mississippi Rebels Weekly Recap

Last game, the Mississippi Rebels lost 29-26 in overtime against the LSU Tigers as 4-point road favorites. The game went under the total of 64. Ole Miss has a record of 5-2 straight up, 5-2 against the spread, and 1-6 over/under the total. Ole Miss ranks 2nd for total offense, 4th for passing, 26th for rushing and 8th for scoring. Defensively they rank 13th overall, 78th against the pass, 1st against the rush, and 2nd for points allowed. Also, Mississippi ranks 49th for fewest turnovers lost and 45th for takeaways.

The Rebels had multiple opportunities in the first quarter to open up a sizable lead. Still, wide receiver Tre Harris dropped a sure touchdown reception, and a missed field goal and turnover on downs kept the game scoreless until Ole Miss’s Caden Davis broke the tie with a 49-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Ole Miss extended its lead on a 50-yard rush by Ulysses Bentley IV, but then the back-and-forth battle began. LSU got on the board on a touchdown pass from Garrett Nussmeier to Trey'Dez Green, and Ole Miss responded with a touchdown pass from Jaxson Dart to Harris.

LSU would kick a field goal to cut the lead to 17-10, and a fumble by Ole Miss running back Henry Parrish Jr. set up another Tiger field goal to make it 17-13 at halftime.

Penalties backed the Rebels up on their possession in overtime, setting up a 57-yard field goal from Davis that he made to give Ole Miss a 26-23 lead. On the first play of the Tigers' possession, however, Nussmeier connected with Kyren Lacy in the end zone to end the game.

Ole Miss’s offense was unable to establish a rhythm for most of the night, where touchdowns are concerned, but it did finish with 464 total yards. Jaxson Dart was 24-for-42 through the air for 284 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, and Bentley led the way in rushing with 107 yards on 11 attempts.

Dart was also sacked six times in the loss, and despite a strong effort from the Ole Miss defense, the Rebels were not able to sack Nussmeier at all on the night.

Ole Miss has a unique reputation in college football. The Rebels won the last of their six conference championships in 1963. Their last national championship was in 1962. Success at Ole Miss is defined by making a bowl game and pulling off an upset. Recruiting limitations begin with the small in-state population.

Yet everyone has a trip to Oxford, MS, on their bucket list. The Grove is one of the most iconic pregame venues in college football. And the girls are the prettiest. In fact, the old saying is that Ole Miss is where Miss America goes to red shirt!

John Vaught, whose name is honored at Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium, is the greatest coach in Ole Miss history. Vaught put up four double-digit win seasons from 1955 through 1962 and led the Rebels to ten Top Ten seasons from 1953 through 1969. Under Vaught, the Rebels went to bowl games in all but two seasons from 1952 through 1970, in an era when making the postseason was difficult.

David Cutcliffe, Houston Nutt, and Hugh Freeze all had some success leading the Ole Miss program. Lane Kiffin is now on pace to become one of the Ole Miss greats and perhaps even challenge Vaught as the GOAT of Ole Miss football coaches.
