2025 Mississippi Rebels Week 2 Betting Lines

Mississippi Rebels College Football Lines

Last week, the Ole Miss Rebels opened the season with a seemingly winnable home game against the Georgia State Panthers. Ole Miss routed Georgia State for a satisfying win and easy payout. This week, the Rebels will step up in class and play their SEC and road opener against the Kentucky Wildcats. Kentucky is a tough out in most SEC games. Last year, Kentucky fell to a record of 4-8 but upset one of the best Ole Miss teams ever in a shocker at Oxford, MS. Thus, the Rebels have the revenge factor going for them. But will it matter?

Mississippi Rebels Weekly Matchup

On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the Mississippi Rebels will visit the Kentucky Wildcats at Kroger Field in Lexington, KY. Kickoff time is 3:30 p.m. ET, with television coverage on ABC.

Last game, the Kentucky Wildcats beat the Toledo Rockets 24-16 as 10-point home favorites. The game went over the total of 48.5.

Dante Dowdell ran untouched for a 79-yard touchdown with 9:22 to play, and Kentucky made Zach Calzada’s debut successful with a victory over Toledo on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Ky. A transfer from Nebraska, Dowdell ran for a career-high 129 yards on 14 attempts. He scored Kentucky’s third rushing TD to give the Wildcats (1-0) some breathing room when Toledo scored with 1:55 left.

After Toledo cut its deficit to 17-9 on a 9-yard TD run by quarterback Tucker Gleason with 9:38 left, Dowdell raced untouched down the right sideline on the first play of the subsequent drive. Calzada rushed for a short touchdown in the first half of his debut with his fourth school after stints with Auburn, Texas A&M, and Incarnate Word. Kentucky’s Seth McGowan added a 6-yard rushing TD while contributing 78 yards on 18 attempts, including 27 on his team’s second TD drive.

Calzada completed 10 of 23 passes for 85 yards and often had trouble completing deep passes before Kentucky shifted to a heavier running attack in the second half.

Mississippi Rebels Weekly Recap

Last game, the Mississippi Rebels beat Georgia Southern 63-7 as 33.5-point home favorites. The game went over the total of 60.5.

Austin Simmons completed 20 of 31 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday, helping No. 21 Ole Miss rout visiting Georgia State in Oxford, Miss. Simmons also threw two interceptions in his first career start, while Kewan Lacy ran for 108 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. Logan Diggs rushed for 91 yards and a score for the Rebels, who outgained Georgia State 695-260 in total offense in both teams’ season opener. Harrison Wallace III made five catches for 130 yards and a touchdown.

Christian Veilleux was 4-of-11 passing for 52 yards, a touchdown, and an interception for outmatched Georgia State. Rashad Amos led the Panthers with 68 rushing yards. The Rebels struck first on Simmons’ 38-yard touchdown pass to Dae’Quan Wright, giving Ole Miss a 7-0 edge with 10:32 left in the first quarter. Simmons was picked off by Chams Diagne on Ole Miss’ next drive, but the Panthers couldn’t capitalize, as Liam Rickman missed a 31-yard field goal.

After advancing to Georgia State’s 17-yard line, Simmons was intercepted again, this time by Jordan Huff. Following Georgia State’s third punt, Ole Miss tacked on with Lucas Carneiro’s 42-yard field goal with 11:28 remaining in the second quarter.

Ole Miss scored on each of its first two possessions of the second half, as Lacy ran for a 42-yard touchdown before Zxavian Harris intercepted Veilleux, setting up Simmons’ 9-yard passing score to Caleb Odom, pushing the Rebels’ lead to 39-7. Carneiro’s 33-yard field goal at the end of the third and Simmons’ 35-yard passing touchdown to Wallace gave Ole Miss a 49-7 advantage.

Ole Miss has a unique reputation in college football. The Rebels won the last of their six conference championships in 1963. Their last national championship was in 1962. Success at Ole Miss is defined by making a bowl game and pulling off an upset. Recruiting limitations begin with the small in-state population.

Yet everyone has a trip to Oxford, MS, on their bucket list. The Grove is one of the most iconic pregame venues in college football. And the girls are the prettiest. In fact, the old saying is that Ole Miss is where Miss America goes to redshirt!

John Vaught, whose name is honored at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, is the greatest coach in Ole Miss history. Vaught put up four double-digit win seasons from 1955 through 1962 and led the Rebels to ten Top Ten seasons from 1953 through 1969. Under Vaught, the Rebels qualified for bowl games in all but two seasons from 1952 through 1970, an era when making the postseason was a significant achievement.

David Cutcliffe, Houston Nutt, and Hugh Freeze all had some success leading the Ole Miss program. Lane Kiffin is now on pace to become one of the Ole Miss greats and perhaps even challenge Vaught as the GOAT of Ole Miss football coaches.
