Boise State Broncos College Football Betting

With the realities of big money college football, the days of the Boise State Broncos as a national power are likely gone forever. The transfer portal, NIL, and potential other player compensation are not something that Boise State can keep up with. But there is a strong belief that Boise State can be much more than it has been since the unfortunate departure of Bryan Harsin to Auburn after the 2020 campaign.

Boise State alum and former player Andy Avalos was not the answer as head coach and was fired after a 5-5 start to the 2023 season. Spencer Danielson took over and went 3-1 with wins in the Mountain West championship game and the LA Bowl to enhance his credibility for the full-time gig. Danielson has been adamant about building the Boise State culture into one of committed players who are not about the bag. At the Group of Five level, his dream has a chance to come to fruition.

2024 Boise State Broncos Betting Preview

Boise State fired Andy Avalos after ten games last year, but the Broncos rallied under Spencer Danielson to reach the Mountain West title game. The Broncos have a shot at the Group of 5’s playoff spot if they can get production out of the quarterback and navigate a schedule that features Oregon, Washington State, and Oregon State in the non-conference. Running back Ashton Jeanty is among college football's top playmakers, and the defense is deep and talented at all three levels in '24.

At first glance, it is possible that the Broncos could have a 5-star quarterback throwing to a 5-star wide receiver, with a Heisman-level running back leading the run game.

Highly touted USC transfer Malachi Nelson was QB1 during spring practice, but he will still have to win the job from Maddux Madsen in the fall officially. Madsen missed the spring due to injury but will get a chance to run new coordinator Dirk Koetter’s offense in fall camp. Either QB will be thankful to have Mountain West Conference Player of the Year Ashton Jeanty at running back. Jeanty was seventh in the nation at 112.3 rushing yards per game, and he led the nation in yards from scrimmage per game at 159.7. He also scored 19 touchdowns.

Edge Ahmed Hassanein racked up 12.5 sacks last season, good for second in the MWC, and he should again be in line for first-team All-MWC honors. Jayden Virgin-Morgan is another defensive end who coaches expect will contend for league honors.

Kicker Jonah Dalmas has a shot at becoming the NCAA’s all-time leader in field goals, needing 18 to set the record. He has kicked 24, 23, and 26 in the last three seasons, respectively. Punter James Ferguson-Reynolds was second in the nation with a 49.7-yard average.
