Arizona State Sun Devils Weekly Matchup
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the Mississippi State Bulldogs will host the Arizona State Sun Devils at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, MS. Kickoff time is 7:30 p.m. ET, with television coverage on ESPN2.
Last game, the Mississippi State Bulldogs won 34-17 against the Southern Miss Eagles as 14-point road favorites. The game went under the total of 60.5.
Blake Shapen passed for 270 yards and a touchdown, and Mississippi State rushed for three third-quarter touchdowns to pull away from Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Shapen completed 26 of 34 passes, Fluff Bothwell ran for two touchdowns, and Davon Booth rushed for one for the Bulldogs in the season opener for both teams.
Mississippi State outgained the Golden Eagles, who were playing their first game under new head coach Charles Huff. The Bulldogs outgained Southern Miss 465-301.
Braylon Braxton, a transfer who followed Huff from last season’s Sun Belt Conference champion Marshall, completed 26 of 39 for 199 yards with two touchdowns and one interception and rushed 12 times for 58 yards.

Last game, the Arizona State Sun Devils won 38-19 as 30.5-point home favorites against Northern Arizona. The game went over the total of 52.5.
Sam Leavitt rushed for two touchdowns and passed for two touchdowns, both to Jordyn Tyson, as No. 11 Arizona State overcame sometimes sloppy play to pull away from visiting Northern Arizona on Saturday in Tempe.
The reigning Big 12 Conference champion and 2024 College Football Playoff participant Sun Devils were penalized 12 times for 93 yards and converted on just 2-of-10 third-down opportunities.
The miscues allowed Northern Arizona to hang around despite falling into an early 14-0 hole. Ty Pennington capped a nine-play, 75-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Nason Coleman. The score midway through the third quarter pulled the Lumberjacks to within a 24-13 deficit. That was as close as Northern Arizona could come, however.
Leavitt broke free for an 18-yard touchdown rush — his second touchdown carry of the night, with 11 seconds left in the third quarter. Leavitt had opened the second half with a career-long 52-yard scoring rush.
Both touchdowns extended 11-point Sun Devils lead to 18 points. Northern Arizona went for a fourth-down conversion on the ensuing possession at midfield, but Pennington was hit as he threw to end the threat. The tackle also ended Pennington’s night.
Arizona State punctuated the win with Leavitt throwing his second touchdown to Tyson, a 16-yard strike, with 2:42 remaining in the fourth quarter. The duo hooked up for a 19-yard score with 5:08 left in the first quarter, part of an early blitz that made it appear the Sun Devils would run the Lumberjacks off the field.
Raleek Brown started the scoring with a 6-yard touchdown carry to cap a 49-yard, five-play drive for the Sun Devils. The Arizona State defense later bowed up inside its own 5-yard line, forcing a turnover on downs while leading 14-0.

In 1970, the nation discovered an emerging power program from the American Southwest when the Arizona State Sun Devils finished 11-0 and 6th in the nation after a 48-26 Peach Bowl win over North Carolina. Head coach Frank Kush led his team to the final Top 10 four times, establishing the ASU program as one of the most successful in the nation. Arizona State became so successful that it created the Fiesta Bowl in 1971 to ensure itself a postseason bid while creating an attractive venue that opponents would want to visit. The Fiesta Bowl became an immediate success and is now part of the College Football Playoff.
