2025 BYU Cougars Week 2 Betting Lines
Since NIL, collectives, and the transfer portal have become the dominant factors in college football, the once-mighty Stanford Cardinal has become a pitiful, helpless, former giant. The academic requirements and rules of this elite private institution have made it difficult to access the portal. On Saturday, the Cardinal will visit the BYU Cougars, who are trying to return to glory under head coach Kalani Sitake. Last week, in the season opener against Portland State, BYU obliterated the Vikings in a blowout game. The FCS Portland State program will now fund its athletic program after receiving compensation for its loss to BYU.

BYU Cougars Weekly Matchup
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the BYU Cougars will host the Stanford Cardinal at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, UT. Kickoff time is 10:10 p.m. ET, with television coverage on ESPN.
Last game, the Stanford Cardinal lost 23-20 to the Hawaii Warriors as 2-point road underdogs. The game went under the total of 50.5.
Micah Alejado led Hawaii on a game-winning drive, capped by Kansei Matsuzawa’s 38-yard field goal as time expired to give the host Rainbow Warriors a win over Stanford in Honolulu.
Trailing 20-17 in the fourth quarter, Hawaii was facing a potential two-score deficit with Stanford driving into Rainbow Warriors territory. However, a leaping Kilinahe Mendiola-Jensen interception of Cardinal quarterback Ben Gulbranson at the Hawaii 31-yard line flipped momentum to the host team’s side.
The Rainbow Warriors capitalized, with Matsuzawa booting his second field goal of the day, a 37-yarder, to tie the score with 2:01 remaining.
Hawaii’s defense bowed up on the ensuing Stanford possession to force a punt, but as Rainbow Warriors quarterback Alejado returned to the field, he walked with a heavy limp. Alejado was under duress all day, taking four sacks, and was hit hard on the previous Hawaii drive.
However, Alejado regrouped and completed five passes on the final drive, the last a 24-yard hookup with Landon Sims that positioned Matsuzawa for his game-winning, 38-yard kick in the football program’s first game against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent. Hawaii is 1-4 all-time against Stanford, a former Pac-12 program that joined the ACC in 2024.
Alejado finished 27-of-39 passing for 210 yards with two touchdowns. He rushed for another 36 yards to complement Cam Barfield’s 45 yards. Micah Ford led Stanford with 113 yards on 26 carries and a score.
BYU Cougars Weekly Recap
In their last game, the BYU Cougars defeated Portland State 69-0 as 43.5-point home favorites. The game went over the total of 61.5.
Bear Bachmeier threw for three touchdowns and ran for two others in his collegiate debut to lead BYU to a victory over Portland State in Provo, Utah, on Saturday night. Bachmeier became the first true freshman quarterback to start a season opener for BYU.
He won the job in fall camp after transferring from Stanford following spring practices. He finished with 97 yards on 7-of-11 passing and added 32 yards on the ground.
BYU churned out 468 yards and five touchdowns on the ground while averaging 9.8 yards per carry. LJ Martin led the way with 131 yards on eight carries.
Portland State struggled to find any life on offense for the second straight game. The Vikings averaged just 1.2 yards per play. CJ Jordan led Portland State with 58 yards on 8-of-14 passing.
Jack Kelly returned a blocked field goal 54 yards for BYU’s first touchdown with 3:58 left in the first quarter. Kelly helped the Cougars overcome a special teams gaffe after Parker Kingston fumbled at the end of a 15-yard punt return, giving Portland State the ball at the BYU 37. The floodgates broke wide open in the second quarter. BYU totaled 287 yards in the second quarter, averaging 13.7 yards per play.

The BYU Cougars have a proud history, including a 1984 national championship and a host of notable quarterbacks.
The founding father of the BYU program is the late, great LaVell Edwards. Edwards took over in 1972 and knew he had to do something different to set the program apart from others. He immediately opened up the offense and developed one of the most prolific passing attacks in college football history.
It was Edwards who transformed the Cougars into a national power and led them to the 1984 national championship. BYU became a national brand under Edwards’ leadership, a status that has continued to this day, despite the Cougars no longer winning at the same rate.
BYU has a long history of strong quarterbacks. Gifford Nielsen, Marc Wilson, Jim McMahon, Steve Young, and Ty Detmer are all in the College Football Hall of Fame. Recently, Zach Wilson was the second pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
