Vancouver Whitecaps FC Betting

The Vancouver Whitecaps became the second Canadian team to join Major League Soccer back in 2011. They became the first Canadian side ever to make it to the MLS playoffs in just their second year, grabbing the last playoff spot in the Western Conference in 2012. However, it took four playoff trips before the Whitecaps were able to get their first playoff victory. Vancouver was bounced in the knockout round in 2012 and 2014, and they were upset by regional rival Portland after getting a bye in 2015. The 2017 campaign saw the franchise make the postseason for the fourth time in seven years, but more importantly they were able to get a playoff win in drubbing the San Jose Earthquakes 5-0 over the span of two legs.

It took some time for Vancouver to win the Canadian Championship, but the Whitecaps were finally able to accomplish the feat in 2015. The club fell in the finals in each of its first three years of existence though, and those setbacks are something that has stuck with fans of the team over the years.

Many Whitecaps supporters are likely to tell you that they would rather win the Cascadia Cup than the Canadian Championship though. The Cascadia Cup might be the biggest rivalry in the MLS with Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver all vying for regional supremacy. This is one of the biggest soccer hotbeds on the continent, and fans of all three clubs care immensely about this derby. Vancouver has won more Cascadia Cups than the other two teams, winning six trophies in all and three during the MLS era of the rivalry.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Mid-Season Update

The Whitecaps’ inability to score has defined their season. Their 17 goals are the fewest of any team in the Western Conference, but they are still in the playoff hunt due to their stolid defense. Vancouver has allowed just 20 goals in 16 games, holding on for a lot of results in low scoring games.

Before the start of the season, Vancouver had made moves to bolster their offense, but they haven’t paid off. Fredy Montero came back to the MLS after spending some time in Portugal, yet he has not provided the same spark that he did as a member of the Seattle Sounders. He has just two goals in the run of play this season, and that’s not enough to make this team a contender.

Montero has been better than Vancouver’s other big signing this year though. Joaquin Ardaiz was heralded as a potential phenom, but the 20-year-old has yet to score a goal this season. That has been very frustrating for the Whitecaps.
