Chicago Fire Betting

This will be a year of change for the Chicago Fire. Chicago has a new owner, a new manager, and a new stadium for 2020. Their two most well-known players from recent years have bid adieu to the team as Bastian Schweinsteiger retired from the club, and Nemanja Nikolic decided not to stay in the Windy City any longer. Additionally, Dax McCarty and Grant Lillard were traded to the new expansion teams in Nashville and Miami, so the Fire are starting over again from scratch.

Chicago Fire FC 2020 Preview

Former USYNT manager Raphael Wicky was hired to make Chicago respectable after a decade of mediocrity. Wicky prioritizes passing from his time with the Swiss national team, and he has brought in plenty of new faces to revitalize the club. The biggest signing of the offseason was former Valencia midfielder Alvaro Medran. Medran is in the prime of his career, but he has never received much playing time after coming up in Real Madrid’s youth system.

C.J. Sapong and Przemyslaw Frankowski are back to give this offense a boost, and Chicago did finish last year with 55 goals thanks in part to their prowess. However, the loss of Nicolas Gaitan and Aleksandar Katai will hurt.

The 2000s were a great decade for Chicago, but the club has fallen on hard times this decade. The Fire have only been able to finish with a winning record twice over the last ten years, and those were also the club’s only two playoff appearances.

Chicago showed some signs of life last year, rising to 8th in the table and nearly qualifying for the MLS Cup Playoffs. They were much better than their record indicated too with a goal differential of +8 on the season, and that mark was tied for the third best in the Eastern Conference with the Philadelphia Union. A midseason slump that saw the Fire win just once in 13 tries cost them a chance at the postseason.
