Columbus Crew SC MLS Betting
It was a disappointing 2021 campaign for the Columbus Crew. They weren’t able to score that many goals, while the defense was more disappointing than it was during their MLS Cup run in 2020. That led to the Crew missing the playoffs, and it may be another tough season as Kevin Molino continues to rehab a knee injury that led to him missing all but six games in 2021.

Columbus Crew SC 2022 Preview
The Columbus Crew have just three wins through their first 12 matches, and that led to the Crew deciding to undergo a partial rebuild while Molino is still hurt. Columbus dealt forward Gyasi Zardes to the Colorado Rapids for $1.4 million in GAM in late April. Zardes had only started one game with the Crew, but there is not a true scoring threat up top for the team now.
Lucas Zelarayan is the main offensive threat with four goals and three assists in 11 matches. Zelarayan was solid for the Crew last season, but this team hasn’t been as effective on offense without a finisher. Derrick Etienne has tried to fill the role and has three goals and four assists in 12 matches, yet he is best used as a complementary piece.
Zelarayan and Etienne have not had much help though. Veteran midfielder Darlington Nagbe is no longer the playmaker he was in the past, and Pedro Santos has not been the difference maker Columbus was expecting on the wing either. Yaw Yeboah came to the club with lots of hype this offseason too, but he has not lived up to expectations.

Columbus is one of the most successful clubs in the history of the MLS. They won the Supporters’ Shield in 2004, 2008, and 2009, the US Open Cup in 2002, and the MLS Cup in 2008 and 2020. This was the first franchise to build a soccer-specific stadium back in 1999, and the Crew have made the postseason 15 times in their illustrious history.
Despite their success, the Columbus Crew were nearly moved to Austin in the mid-2010s. Anthony Precourt bought the club from the Hunt family in 2013, and he quickly became the most unpopular owner in the league after trying to move one of the founding clubs of the MLS despite its success and commitment to the community. Fortunately, Jimmy Haslam bought the Crew and committed to keeping the team in Columbus on January 1, 2019. The Crew rewarded Haslam by winning their second MLS Cup in 2020.
