The big news for Inter Miami right now is that the club will have a state-of-the-art soccer stadium soon. In April, the city agreed to give Inter Miami the land it coveted in the heart of the city. Currently, the team plays at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, a building that has been around since 1959, and David Beckham and company have been after a new stadium since the expansion franchise was announced a few years ago. That will certainly help with attendance and build the brand that the club is seeking to foster in the fickle south Florida sports market.

Inter Miami 2022 Preview
Gonzalo Higuain was the big name that Inter Miami signed in their expansion season. Higuain posted quality numbers in 2021 with 12 goals and nine assists in 30 matches, but he was much less effective through the first several weeks of the 2022 season. That led to the club replacing him with Leo Campana, and the 21-year-old from Ecuador has shined in the role as the primary striker. Campana leads the club with six goals and has also added two assists through 13 games. He has had a hand in eight of Inter Miami’s 13 goals, providing life to an otherwise listless attack.
Unfortunately, the situation in the back isn’t much better. Inter Miami has allowed 21 goals through 13 matches, and they have one of the worst goal differential numbers in the league. Their outside backs have been susceptible to runs on the flanks, and that must be fixed over the last two-thirds of the season. Goaltender Drake Callender has been solid in net for the club though.

It wasn’t a great debut season for Inter Miami. David Beckham and company’s new club was unable to have much success, finishing in 10th place in the Eastern Conference. However, they did prove they could hang with the other southeastern MLS clubs, securing two wins (and the first win in franchise history) over Orlando City SC and two wins plus a draw against Atlanta United.
The 2021 season wasn’t much better for Inter Miami. They were 2-2-2 after their first six games, but they proceeded to drop six straight matches in a two-month stretch. They were competitive again from mid-July to mid-September and looked like they might make the playoffs after posting a 7-1-3 record in 11 games, but then they lost six straight matches once again to completely undermine their playoff hopes.
