Orlando City SC Odds To Win 2019 MLS Cup

Orlando City SC Betting

Orlando City is one of Major League Soccer’s newest franchises. The MLS had been dying to get a team back into Florida after the Miami Fusion and Tampa Bay Mutiny folded after six seasons in the league back in 2001, but all of their attempts failed until the Lions came along. Orlando has proven to be a fertile market as fans flocked to see the club at the old Citrus Bowl prior to a soccer-specific stadium being built.

Unfortunately, Orlando City has not been able to produce a winner just yet. The ownership group has certainly tried though, with the Lions seemingly splashing their cash every offseason. Orlando City first made waves when they signed Kaka after he was released from his contract by AC Milan. Kaka played for the club for three seasons before retiring at the end of 2017, and he was joined by other big names during his time in The Theme Park Capital of the World.

The Lions have failed to finish with a winning record in their first four seasons, and their place in the table has kept getting worse and worse. In 2018, Orlando City completely bottomed out, going 13 matches without a win en route to a last place finish in the Eastern Conference.

Orlando City SC Mid-Season Update

The Lions have yet to make the postseason in their short history, but they are within striking distance at the halfway point of the season. They are just one point behind Toronto FC in the Eastern Conference standings, and they have taken major steps to shore up a back line that was the worst in the MLS in 2018.

Of course, it all starts with Nani. He came over on a transfer from Sporting Lisbon in February, and he immediately became the best offensive weapon on the roster. Nani leads the team in goals and assists with eight goals and four assists in 13 matches. His production has tailed off a little over the last month, and the Lions have fallen off without their top gun leading the way. They have been shut out in three of their last six matches.

Another offensive option must emerge to complement Nani over the second half of the season. Dom Dwyer has had his fair share of struggles, especially for a designated player, but Tesho Akindele and Chris Mueller have played well. If either of those two can raise their game another level, that would be massive.

Orlando must prove that they can beat the league’s elite teams. Four of their five wins this season have come against teams likely to miss the playoffs, and their schedule will ramp up in July with two games in four days against Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia. Summer home games against teams not used to the Florida sun could spark a run to the playoffs though.
