Portland Timbers MLS Betting Odds
The 2019 campaign was always going to be a difficult one for the Portland Timbers. Portland spent the first three months of the season on the road while Providence Park was being renovated, but the Timbers managed to hold their own and then some in the first half of the season. That led to many pundits speculating that Portland would be one of the best teams in the MLS over the second half of the year, but instead the Timbers fizzled at their revamped home. Portland managed to win just eight of its 17 home games, leading to the Timbers finishing the season in sixth place in the Western Conference. They were one and done in the playoffs after wining the Western Conference in 2018, yet more is expected of this club in 2020.

Portland Timbers 2020 Preview
The loss of Brian Fernandez will hurt Portland. He was the team’s best offensive weapon over the second half of the season, but the club was forced to move on from the talented striker due to substance abuse issues. The club brought in Yimmi Chara and Jaroslaw Niezgoda to replace him, but only time will tell how well they fit with the other players currently in the Rose City.
There is still a plethora of attacking talent on this team though. Cristhian Paredes, Sebastian Blanco, and Diego Valeri constitute a dangerous midfield, and Jeremy Ebobisse is growing into his role as the team’s top forward. Potential issues in the back line could lead to Timbers’ games being high scoring in 2020, making this one of the best teams to watch this season.

The Pacific Northwest is a hotbed for soccer, and after the success of the Seattle Sounders, it was obvious that Major League Soccer was going to put another team in the region. The Portland Timbers were awarded an expansion franchise in 2009, becoming the second major professional team in the city. Since their founding, they have captured the hearts of the city and are one of the most fervently supported teams in the MLS.
Portland has sold out every single home game since entering the league in 2011. That’s a feat that no other team in the MLS can claim, as fans pack Providence Park for every one of their games. In fact, this is such a hot ticket that there is a 10,000-person wait list, and the park added another few thousand seats to accommodate demand last year.
To keep support this strong for so long, you must be able to win on the field. The Timbers have been able to do plenty of that. Portland has made it to the postseason in seven of its nine seasons in the MLS, finished atop the Western Conference three times, and claimed an MLS Cup in 2015.
