Montreal Impact Odds To Win 2019 MLS Cup

Montreal Impact Betting

The Montreal Impact existed before the creation of Major League Soccer, they just played in a different league. The Impact joined the American Professional Soccer League in 1992, and they were quickly able to establish themselves as a team to reckon with after winning the league in 1994. They finished with the best regular season record for the next three seasons, but they were unable to repeat as champions in the postseason.

In 2000, Montreal joined the United Soccer League. It took a couple seasons for the Impact to get going in that league, but they eventually started winning in 2003. They finished with the best regular season record for four straight seasons from 2003 to 2006, winning the league in 2004 and again in 2009.

Over time, support for the Impact grew to the point that the Impact started pursuing a route into Major League Soccer. Montreal was awarded an MLS franchise in 2010, and they began playing in the league in 2012. The club has made it to the playoffs three times since it joined the MLS, with its best finish coming in 2016 when Montreal made it to the Eastern Conference Final.

The Impact have had more success in other competitions. Montreal won the Canadian Championship in 2013 and 2014, and then the club made one of the most incredible runs in the brief history of the CONCACAF Champions League. The Impact were able to knock Liga MX giants Pachuca out of the tournament en route to becoming the first Canadian team to ever make it to the Champions League Final. There, they lost to Club America, but it was a shot across the bow to the rest of North America.

Montreal Impact Mid-Season Update

The Montreal Impact are tied with D.C. United for second place in the Eastern Conference with 27 points. However, no one really believes in this team. Despite an 8-7-3 record, they have a -7 goal differential that is the fourth-worst in the conference. They are a prime candidate to stumble down the stretch.

When the Impact lose, they lose big. Five of their seven losses have come by multiple goals, and a 7-1 beatdown by Sporting Kansas City is the worst loss by any team in the MLS this season. Conversely, only two of their eight wins were by two or more goals.

To make matters worse, the Impact will be without their best playmaker until at least August. Ignacio Piatti started this season off with a bang, notching three goals in March, but he has suffered two major injuries thus far in 2019. Saphir Taider has done a good job in his absence, but without Piatti the Impact will likely fall down the tables.

The good news for the Montreal Impact is that they will close the season with five of their final six matches at home. Provided they are able to tread water and not completely fall off the pace without Piatti, that bodes well for a late season playoff push. Montreal have scored just 21 goals in 18 matches this year though.
