Houston Dynamo Odds To Win 2019 MLS Cup

Houston Dynamo Betting

The Houston Dynamo had one of the best starts you can imagine for a team moving to a new city. Ownership moved the club from San Jose at the conclusion of the 2005 season in order to find a city willing to build a brand-new soccer-specific stadium. Houston welcomed the club with open arms and was immediately rewarded with the club winning back-to-back MLS Cups right after the move.

However, it wasn’t all roses for the club after the move to Houston. The original name for the Houston franchise was Houston 1836. This was supposed to be a nod to when the city was founded, but that was also the same year that Texas gained its independence from Mexico. A large number of Houstonians protested the name, and it was quickly decided that the team should be named the Dynamo instead.

Interestingly enough, the Dynamo have only finished on top of the table once during their 12 seasons in the league despite making it to the MLS Cup four times. Additionally, they have the rare distinction of making it to the MLS Cup as both a member of the Western Conference and a member of the Eastern Conference.

Houston Dynamo Mid-Season Update

Through a scheduling quirk, the Dynamo have only played 13 games so far this season, so Houston is actually just 40 percent of the way through its schedule. Still, the Dynamo have been fantastic, and their 1.85 points per game average is the second-most in the MLS.

However, that number has been greatly buoyed by the number of home games Houston has played. The Dynamo have played 9 of their games at home this season, and nearly all their points come from their 6-0-3 record during those matches. They have more road games remaining than any other team, and that will test their resolve going forward.

The Dynamo have two stars in Alberth Elis and Mauro Manotas. These two have linked up well together in 2019, and they have combined to score 11 of Houston’s 21 goals this year. There is growing chatter that one or both of those players could be sold during the secondary transfer window though. Celtic are reportedly in hot pursuit of Elis, who is currently away on Gold Cup duty for Honduras, while other clubs are considering a move for Manotas.

The remaining road schedule figures to be a brutal one for Houston. The Dynamo have consecutive home games just once the remainder of the season, and they will be taking plenty of long road trips. Playing 21 matches in just 3 ½ months won’t be easy, so a drop-off is to be expected, but moving Elis or Manotas could lead to a freefall.
