College Football Week 16 Best Bets

One of college football’s most sacred traditions will continue in 2025, despite all the changes in the sport’s landscape. It is appropriate that there is only one regularly scheduled game on the schedule for Week 16. The Army-Navy game is bigger than college football. It is a rivalry steeped in tradition, history, and patriotism. Known as “America’s Game,” the Army-Navy Game is one of the most-viewed college football games annually. For sure, neither team is a national power. However, both teams consistently play good football and have been regulars on the bowl circuit in recent years. But what matters is the players' and coaches' passion and commitment. Although the only game on the Week 16 schedule is Army vs. Navy, with the Midshipmen favored in college football odds, the college football bowl schedule does begin on Saturday, December 13th with South Carolina State playing Prairie View A&M in the Celebration Bowl on ABC and the LA Bowl between Boise State and Washington on ABC.

2025-2026 College Football Week 16 Schedule

Saturday, December 13, 2025

Army Black Knights vs. Navy Midshipmen, 3 pm, CBS (Baltimore, MD)

Army (6–5, 5–6 ATS) meets Navy (9–2, 4–7 ATS) on Saturday in the 126th edition of America’s most tradition-soaked rivalry, with the Midshipmen entering as 5.5-point favorites and riding one of the nation’s most explosive rushing attacks. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET with the total sitting at 38.5, a familiar number for a matchup that has gone under in 17 of the last 19 meetings. Navy brings the better record, the more efficient offense, and the deeper backfield, while Army arrives battle-tested after a season full of one-score games and road wins at Air Force, UTSA, and UAB. This year, America’s Game takes place at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, MD, home of the NFL Baltimore Ravens.

Navy enters with one of the most productive ground attacks in the country, averaging 328.2 rushing yards per game and ranking top-five nationally in rushing attempts. Blake Horvath is the engine of the offense, functioning as both the leading rusher and passer, and giving the Midshipmen a dual-threat dimension Army hasn’t consistently faced this season. Navy’s 35.7 points per game mark a major jump from recent years and reflect a unit that can score in chunks rather than relying solely on methodical drives.

Army’s identity remains unchanged: run the football, shorten the game, and rely on Cale Hellums’ legs to keep the offense on schedule. Hellums has topped 1,000 rushing yards and is responsible for 15 touchdowns, but the passing game remains minimal at 78.3 yards per contest. Army’s defense has been vulnerable through the air (255.5 yards allowed) and inconsistent against the run, a concern against Navy’s volume and efficiency.

The Black Knights do bring toughness and close-game experience, with four wins decided by a field goal or less and road victories at Air Force and UTSA. Their ability to win low-possession games keeps them live as an underdog, especially in a rivalry where scoring is historically suppressed.

Navy’s defense gives up yards — 438.6 per game — but stiffens enough in the red zone to complement its high-output offense. If the Midshipmen get even one or two early stops, their pace and rushing depth can tilt the game.

Army vs. Navy Betting Angles

Army ATS: 5–6

Navy ATS: 4–7

Army O/U: 3–7

Navy O/U: 8–3

Army last 10: 6–4 straight up, but only 3 overs

Navy scoring: 35.7 PPG (huge edge vs Army’s 23.0)

Sharp angle: Navy’s rushing volume (328.2 YPG) vs Army’s rush defense (143.2 allowed) is the clearest statistical mismatch on the board.

Total note: Army–Navy has historically been an automatic under, but Navy’s 2025 offense is far more explosive than past versions.

Key Players

Army Black Knights

QB Cale Hellums: 504 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 1,078 rushing yards; 15 total TD

RB Room: Multiple injuries (Shannon, Bartosh questionable)

WR Brady Anderson: 350 receiving yards

LB/DE Eric Ford: 4.0 sacks

DB Casey Larkin: 2 INT

Navy Midshipmen

QB Blake Horvath: 1,390 passing yards; 1,040 rushing yards; 14 total TD

WR Eli Heidenreich: 805 receiving yards

DE Landon Robinson: 6.5 sacks

DB Phillip Hamilton: 2 INT

In 2024, Navy routed Army 31-13 in Landover, Maryland, in front of a sellout crowd. Blake Horvath outplayed Bryson Daily at quarterback, accounting for 311 yards and four touchdowns to help Navy beat No. 19 Army. Horvath threw for 107 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 204 yards and two TDs. Navy snapped a two-game losing streak in the series.

Daily, who finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy vote in 2024, threw a touchdown pass of his own, but he was intercepted three times. Army fell behind 14-0 in the second quarter and never completely recovered. The Black Knights were coming off a victory over Tulane in the American Athletic Conference title game — the first league championship in program history.

Navy, which won its first six games this season and also spent time in the Top 25, completed a sweep of Air Force and Army to win the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy for the first time since 2019.

In 2023, Army jumped out to a 10-0 lead and held on for a 17-11 win against Navy. The Black Knights were outgained 309-259, but they had a +2 turnover margin, which proved to be the difference. The game was held at Gillette Stadium, home of the National Football League's New England Patriots.

In 2022, Army topped the Navy for a 20-17 overtime and a revenge win. Navy running back Anton Hall pushed for a go-ahead touchdown but fumbled near paydirt. Army recovered and then kicked the winning field goal. Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo was fired after the game. Had the Navy won, Coach Ken would still be in command.

The 2021 matchup was a poignant reminder of what makes the Army-Navy game so special. Army was bowl-bound and enjoying another strong season. Navy was down and out with coaching turmoil and a 3-8 record. Yet Navy rose to the occasion and outplayed Army to score a 17-13 win. The game was a reminder as to why there are no sure things in this great service academy rivalry. The game was a great demonstration of why Army vs. Navy draws massive TV ratings and is one of the most popular games on the college football calendar.

Tradition and ritual reek at the Army-Navy Game. Thousands of cadets and midshipmen march in uniform inside the stadium, rooting for their teams in full-throated enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the Army mule and Navy goat rank among the greatest mascots in all sports. And when the game ends, the signing of the two school songs by both programs sparks tears and goosebumps for the teams and millions of fans. Army-Navy epitomizes all that sports can and should be.

In recent years, Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field has often served as the neutral site venue for the Army-Navy Game. In 2021, the series shifted to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets. Lincoln Financial Field got the game back for 2022.

The difference-maker of the Army-Navy game is Black Knights head coach Jeff Monken. The Army was rendered helpless in their series against a successful Navy team until his arrival.

From 1989 through 2015, Army could muster only two bowl seasons. Monken took the Black Knights job, understanding that Army would fully invest in a winning football program. The Black Knights have taken control of their series with the Navy and have gone to bowl games in four of the past five seasons. In 2018, Army nearly upset the Oklahoma Sooners in an epic overtime loss indicative of their rapid improvement. The following year, the Army team could have won a double-overtime game at the Big House against the Michigan Wolverines.

In recent years, Army has guarded the payout window quite effectively in its head-to-head series with Navy. The Black Knights have gotten the cash in nine of the most recent 13 meetings in this rivalry series.
