The front office’s faith in his potential led to some major changes with the attack, and they decided to bring in other young players alongside him. Santiago Rodriguez was brought back as a Designated Player, and he will likely look to recreate Moralez’s role in the midfield.
There is not a lot of experience in the back aside from center back Maxime Chanot. NYCFC heads into the season with three unproven goalkeepers after letting Sean Johnson go, and the only other defender on the roster with more than 60 caps aside from Chanot is Malte Amundsen.

New York City has two teams in every major sport. Thus, it’s only natural that soccer would follow suit and grant the Big Apple a second franchise to complement the New York Red Bulls. The Hudson River Derby is already one of the fiercest rivalries in the MLS, but the Red Bulls have currently won 14 of the 25 games in this series to date.
It didn’t take long for NYCFC to become competitive. The club finished in second place in the Eastern Conference in just its second season, but the team was unable to advance past the quarterfinals of the MLS Playoffs until 2021. NYCFC finally broke through by knocking off Atlanta United in the first round and upsetting the Supporters’ Shield winning New England Revolution in the conference semifinals. They went on to beat the Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference Finals and triumphed over Portland by way of penalties in the MLS Cup to win their first major title.
NYCFC has now made the postseason for seven straight seasons. The Bronx Blues have one of the biggest budgets in the league thanks to an ownership group that is backed by Manchester City and the New York Yankees, and they have used that money to make this team a constant contender.
