One of the original members of Serie A back in 1929 was Bologna. Bologna were one of the best clubs in Italy before World War II broke out, with numerous top five finishes during that time period. They ended up winning four Serie A titles over the course of six years and have one of the richest histories in Italy with seven league championships in all. Additionally, they have won the Coppa Italia twice in their history, with both wins coming in the 1970s.

Unfortunately, in the 1980s, it all began to fall apart. After more than 50 years in Italy’s top league, Bologna were relegated to Serie B and Serie C in successive seasons. It took them a dozen years until they found stability in the top flight once more, but they have since bounced back and forth between Serie A and Serie B. Their highest finish since the demotion has been 7th.
