Bayern Munich – The German Behemoth and Dynasty

Entering the 2023-24 season, Bayern Munich was the 11-time defending champion of the Bundesliga. After their stunning fall in 2024, Bayern Munich roared back to restore its status as the dominant, marquee franchise of the Bundesliga with 34 national titles overall, far and away the best in the Bundesliga.

The latest manager to be fired at Bayern Munich was Thomas Tuchel, who was canned in February of 2024. The current manager of Bayern Munich, effective May 29, 2024, is Vincent Kompany.

Keep in mind that managers have been fired in the pressure-cooker that is Bayern Munich, despite winning titles. One of the latest men to suffer such a humiliating fate was Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked in favor of Tuchel.

Also, having won a recent championship for Bayern Munich, only to be fired, was Hansi Flick. Yet another championship manager, Niko Kovac, departed under fire by mutual agreement. Thus, Kompany knows the fire pit that he is stepping into.

Tuchel brought plenty of credibility, but it still failed to keep the wolves at bay. Tuchel won the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain in 2018-19 and 2019-20. He led Chelsea to the UEFA Champions League title in 2020-21. In 2022-23, Tuchel took Bayern Munich to its 11th straight Bundesliga title. Yet, in the end, that was not good enough for a long-term gig.

One of the reasons Bayern Munich is expected to continue winning titles in abundance was the 2023 acquisition of English superstar Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur. Kane is best known as the top player on the England national team, where he scored 69 goals in 103 games and was a major factor in the program's resurgence on the World Cup stage.

While at Tottenham Hotspur, Kane scored 213 goals in 317 apps before playing on loan for four clubs en route to Bayern Munich. So far, with Bayern Munich, Kane has 81 goals in 78 apps.

Naturally, Kane is the most expensive signing in the Bundesliga's history, well in excess of $25 million US annually. Bayern Munich and its fans will tell you he is worth every penny.
