Following a 9-4 record and final national ranking of 18th in 2023, the NC State Wolfpack took a major step back in 2024, finishing 6-7 with a loss in the Military Bowl. It was the first losing season for NC State since 2019 and just the third since Dave Doeren took over in 2013.
Head coach Dave Doeren has never received the full appreciation of the NC State faithful. Yet nobody has produced more wins for the Wolfpack than Doeren. Additionally, Doeren has led the Wolfpack to nine bowl berths. Perhaps that lack of appreciation is because Doeren has never come close to winning an ACC championship. NC State is usually good and sometimes very good under Doeren. However, they have never been great. And that may be more about the NC State program’s football gravity than Doeren himself. Consider that the Wolfpack has only one Top Ten final finish in its history.

2025 NC State Wolfpack Preview
With new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper and a group of new weapons, NC State appears primed to put up points at a high clip this season. The defense, which helped keep the Pack in games last year but could have some growing pains. If the defense finds its footing, NC State has the opportunity to compete for an ACC Championship Game appearance in 2025.
Last season’s 6-7 record was NC State’s first losing mark since 2019, but coach Dave Doeren still guided the program to its fifth straight bowl appearance. With new coordinators on both sides of the ball, along with the development of promising quarterback CJ Bailey, could the Wolfpack make a big jump in the ACC standings?
Sophomore quarterback CJ Bailey is Doeren’s biggest reason for optimism in ‘25. As a true freshman last year, Bailey threw for 2,413 yards and 14 touchdowns and finished sixth among ACC signal-callers in completion rate (64.9 percent). New play-caller Kurt Roper aims to take Bailey’s game to the next level, and having talented pass catchers in tight end Justin Joly and receivers Noah Rogers and Justin Grimes can aid in that development. Running back Hollywood Smothers (571 yards in ‘24) is poised for a breakout year.
New coordinator D.J. Eliot inherits a defense that ranked 15th in the ACC in points allowed per contest (29.7) and is navigating significant offseason turnover in the secondary. Linebackers Caden Fordham and Sean Brown form a solid second level, while Temple transfer Tra Thomas could boost a pass rush that generated only 16 sacks in ACC play last season.
The Wolfpack will do well enough in September to overcome a slew of misfires over the second half of the season. It’ll lose two of the back-to-back road games and split the dates versus Georgia Tech and Florida State before facing North Carolina. Reaching 8-4 would be solid, while 7-5 might be more realistic if there’s an early mistake.

The NC State Wolfpack has 11 conference championships. They have never won a national championship. Yet, Wolfpack fans continue to have an overinflated sense of what the program should be, considering its history, especially given that the last NC State conference championship was in 1979. The only season the Wolfpack finished ranked Top 10 was in 1974 under Lou Holtz. Chuck Amato produced the only double-digit win season in program history, leading the Wolfpack to an 11-3 mark in 2002.
Current head coach Dave Doeren is the winningest coach in NC State history. Since 2017, Doeren has produced five CFP Top 25 finishes. During his tenure that began in 2013, Doeren has produced eight bowl seasons.
Last year, Doeren pleaded with fans and donors to step up their efforts to help make NC State competitive on the NIL front. Playing in the ACC is a drag on an aspiring playoff program due to lower revenues. Time will tell if NC State goes all in to compete with the ACC’s elite, Clemson and Florida State.

Wager disputes (claims)
If you disagree with any aspect of a wager you’ve placed, you are welcome to log an official dispute (commonly known as a “claim”). Claims must be reported no later than 15 (fifteen) calendar days following the settlement of the wager.
If following an initial review of the case there remains any doubt regarding the wager type, line, market, amount, or any other detail, the claim will be escalated to the BookMaker management team. All decisions made by them are final.

Cash Out is selectively available on certain events, fixtures, and markets.
In order to see if a wager is eligible to be cashed out, simply navigate to your Bet Slip and check the 'My Open Bets' tab. If eligible, the Cash Out button will be displayed.
