United Football League Week 8 Betting Preview

The Showboats will return to the Alamodome with a score to settle Friday night as they kick off Week 8 UFL betting, still stinging from last year’s stunning collapse against the Brahmas. Memphis held a commanding 16-0 lead entering the fourth quarter but was outscored 20-3 in the final frame, allowing San Antonio to complete one of its most dramatic wins of the 2024 season. While the Showboats still managed to cover as 2.5-point home underdogs, under bettors endured a tense finish before cashing their tickets, with the 39 combined points narrowly staying under the closing total of 40.

Unfortunately, this match means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things with both squads mathematically eliminated from the playoffs last week. As it is, the Brahmas hit the board as short 1-point favorites on the UFL odds with the total set at a week-low 36.

The UFL heavyweight clash between the BattleHawks and Stallions lived up to the hype in their only meeting of the 2024 season. Birmingham held a slim 17-14 halftime lead but fell behind in the second half, forcing Skip Holtz’s squad into comeback mode. The Stallions answered the call, outscoring St. Louis 13-6 in the fourth quarter to secure a thrilling 30-26 victory. Despite the win, Birmingham fell short of covering the 4.5-point spread, rewarding BattleHawks bettors at the window. The 56 combined points easily soared over the week’s highest total of 47.5. Another hotly contested battle is expected in their Week 8 rematch with both teams lined amongst the elite favorites to win the UFL Championship come the middle of June.

Oddsmakers at the crypto sportsbook lined this one a near coin flip with the BattleHawks opening short 1.5-point favorites, and the total lined 39.5—a far cry from one of the highest O/U’s of last season.

The Houston Roughnecks will look to settle the score in the back half of Saturday’s doubleheader when C.J. Johnson’s squad welcomes the Michigan Panthers to TDECU Stadium. The Roughnecks were swept by Mike Nolan’s team last season, starting with a 34-20 blowout loss in Week 3. That game unraveled quickly after a tight 12-11 contest turned lopsided, with Michigan outscoring Houston 22-3 in the third quarter. The Panthers easily covered the 3-point spread, and the 54 combined points sailed over the 37.5 total. The Week 9 rematch followed a similar script. Houston flipped a 6-3 halftime deficit into a 22-12 lead by the end of the third, only to be blanked 14-0 in the fourth and fall 26-22. Though the Roughnecks failed to close it out, they did manage to cover as 4.5-point home underdogs. The 48 total points once again cleared the number, pushing the over to 2-0 in this budding rivalry.

With Michigan aiming for a third straight win—and a chance to potentially leap Birmingham in the standings as the defending champs head into a tough matchup in the BattleDome—the Panthers opened 3.5-point road favorites for their Week 8 clash with the Roughnecks. The total was set at a week-high 43 points for the first of two meetings between these teams over the next three weeks.

The Arlington Renegades and DC Defenders will meet for the final time this regular season Sunday at a packed Audi Field—beer snake and all. Their last two matchups were thrillers, with DC edging out a 29-28 win in Week 3 before Arlington answered with a 32-31 upset in Week 10. Both games flew over the total, averaging 60 combined points. In Week 5 of the current UFL season, Shannon Harris’ squad stormed back from a 27-15 halftime deficit to pull off a thrilling 37-33 upset victory as 3.5-point road underdogs. The 70 combined points blew past the 39.5-point total—eclipsed before halftime in what turned out to be one of the most lopsided Over/Under results of the year.

With Arlington fighting for its playoff lives and DC aiming to maintain its hold on the top spot in the XFL Division, the Defenders opened as slim 2.5-point favorites with a modest Over/Under of 42.5—despite the recent trend of high-scoring games in this rivalry.
