Birmingham Stallions UFL Season Recap

Birmingham Stallions UFL Betting

The 2025 UFL betting season was one of transition, adversity, and ultimately heartbreak for the Birmingham Stallions. Aiming for an unprecedented fourth consecutive spring league title, the two-time defending champions entered the year with high expectations and a target on their backs. While flashes of the Stallions' championship pedigree were on display throughout the season, inconsistency—especially at the quarterback position—ultimately derailed their title hopes. Birmingham finished the regular season 7-3 straight up and 6-4 versus the UFL spread before falling to the Michigan Panthers in the USFL Conference Championship, marking their first postseason loss since the franchise’s rebirth in 2022.

From the outset, head coach Skip Holtz faced a challenge few anticipated: quarterback instability. The team never truly found rhythm under center, rotating through multiple signal callers throughout the season. J’Mar Smith made several starts and flashed upside, including a few deep-ball connections with standout receiver Deon Cain, but his inconsistency and health issues limited the offense’s potential. Matt Corral returned to action late in the season after missing time due to injury, and though he provided a spark in the playoffs, it was too little too late.

Despite the turbulence under center, Birmingham still fielded one of the league’s most balanced rosters. Deon Cain emerged as the offense’s most dynamic weapon, finishing among the league leaders in receiving yards and explosive plays. Tight end Jordan Thomas proved reliable in the red zone, and Davion Davis chipped in timely receptions throughout the campaign. On the ground, the team leaned on C.J. Marable and Ricky Person Jr., though the rushing attack never quite reached the dominance of previous seasons.

Defensively, the Stallions remained one of the toughest units in the league. Linebackers DeMarquis Gates anchored a physical front seven, while Steven Gilmore and JoJo Tillery were consistent forces in the secondary. The unit forced turnovers at a high clip and helped keep Birmingham competitive in games where the offense struggled to find rhythm. Special teams also contributed, with kicker Harrison Mevis nailing 21-of-23 field goal attempts, including a league-best 56-yarder.

The postseason, however, revealed the team’s cracks. Facing Michigan in the conference title game, the Stallions allowed a season-high 44 points and 371 total yards—both season worsts. While Corral led a valiant effort to bring Birmingham back from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit, turnovers and defensive breakdowns ultimately proved too much to overcome. The 44-29 defeat as short home favorites per the closing UFL spread not only ended their playoff run, but also snapped a seven-game winning streak against the Panthers and a perfect postseason record since 2022.

Despite the disappointing finish, the 2025 season was far from a failure. Birmingham remained one of the league’s most respected and consistent franchises, even amid personnel challenges. Coach Holtz maintained the locker room’s unity and competitive edge, and the foundation remains strong moving forward. With a full offseason to address the quarterback position and revamp their offensive consistency, the Stallions will enter 2026 hungry to reclaim their crown. The three-time champions may have fallen short this year, but if history is any indication, Birmingham won’t stay down for long.

Birmingham Stallions Conference Championship Recap

The Birmingham Stallions (7-4, 6-5 ATS) quest for a fourth straight spring league title came to an end with a 44-29 loss and non-UFL odds cover against the Michigan Panthers in the USFL Conference Championship. The defeat snapped Birmingham’s perfect 6-0 postseason record since the team’s 2022 rebirth and marked just the second time in franchise history they’ve allowed 40+ points in a game. Birmingham finished with 303 total yards, including 242 through the air. Quarterback J’Mar Smith started and went 4-of-10 for 102 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. Matt Corral entered late in the second quarter for his first game action since Week 4 and led a brief resurgence. He completed 12-of-25 passes for 147 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, also rushing for 18 yards.

WR Deon Cain led all Birmingham receivers with 124 yards on six catches, including a 65-yard reception. TE Jordan Thomas added two touchdowns on three catches for 39 yards, while Davion Davis contributed a 30-yard, two-catch effort with a score. C.J. Marable led the Stallions on the ground with 28 yards and the team’s only rushing touchdown. Defensively, Steven Gilmore posted nine tackles (seven solo) and forced a fumble that set up a Stallions score. DeMarquis Gates (8 tackles) and JoJo Tillery (7 tackles) also contributed, while Perrion Winfrey recorded Birmingham’s only sack. Michigan gained 371 yards—the most Birmingham allowed all season—and kept the Stallions’ defense off-balance with a dual-threat quarterback and strong rushing attack. Despite trailing by 17 entering the fourth, Birmingham briefly cut the lead to five points before turnovers and defensive breakdowns sealed their fate. Birmingham ends the season 7-4, with Michigan snapping their 7-game series win streak and handing them their first playoff loss since the modern era began.
