St. Louis Battlehawks UFL Season Recap
The 2025 UFL betting season was a roller coaster for the St. Louis BattleHawks—one filled with flashes of dominance, gritty wins, and ultimately a disappointing end just short of punching their first ticket to the UFL Championship Game. After finishing the regular season with a strong 8-3 record and 7-3 mark against the closing UFL odds, clinching the top seed in the XFL Conference, St. Louis appeared poised to finally break through and reach the league’s biggest stage. However, a lopsided 36-18 home loss to the D.C. Defenders in the conference title game ended the campaign on a sour note, leaving the BattleHawks once again searching for answers in the postseason.
Under head coach Anthony Becht, the BattleHawks developed into one of the UFL’s most physical and balanced teams. St. Louis led the league in rushing during the regular season, averaging nearly 145 yards per game, thanks to a three-headed backfield and a rugged offensive line. Jacob Saylors emerged as the primary weapon out of the backfield, finishing the year with nearly 600 rushing yards and multiple scores, while quarterback Max Duggan added mobility and toughness to the run game.

The passing game, while streaky at times, found its rhythm as the season progressed. Duggan shared snaps early on but eventually solidified his role as the starter following a season-ending injury to Manny Wilkins, making strides as both a passer and decision-maker. Hakeem Butler continued to be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, regularly drawing double coverage and still finishing among the league leaders in receiving touchdowns. Tight end Jake Sutherland and speedster Jahcour Pearson gave the BattleHawks added depth and big-play potential.
On defense, St. Louis thrived behind a fast, aggressive front seven and a physical secondary. Linebacker Willie Harvey was a standout, leading the league in tackles and setting a UFL season-high with 15 stops in the playoff loss. The unit finished top-two in total defense during the regular season and was particularly effective at shutting down opposing pass games. Defensive backs Myles Jones and Qwynnterrio Cole also contributed timely takeaways and pass breakups, giving the BattleHawks one of the UFL’s most complete defenses allowing them to procure one of the best records against the crypto sportsbook.
The team enjoyed several signature wins, including a comeback thriller against the Birmingham Stallions and a hard-fought home win and UFL spread victory against the Michigan Panthers. Playing in front of one of the league’s most passionate fan bases at The Dome at America’s Center, St. Louis drew consistent crowds of 25,000+ and delivered an electric home-field atmosphere all season long.
Unfortunately, the playoff loss to D.C. exposed some of the team’s lingering weaknesses. Duggan struggled with turnovers and decision-making, while the defense failed to contain a Defenders rushing attack that posted a season-high 187 yards. Falling behind early, the BattleHawks were forced to abandon their run-first identity, which ultimately led to their undoing. Despite the disappointing finish, the 2025 season reinforced that St. Louis is one of the league’s premier franchises. With a solid coaching staff, a strong roster core, and unmatched fan support, the BattleHawks will enter 2026 with championship expectations and unfinished business.
St. Louis Battlehawks Conference Championship Recap
The St. Louis BattleHawks (8-3, 7-4 ATS) fell 36-18 to the D.C. Defenders in the XFL Conference Championship, ending their 2025 season in front of 27,589 fans at The Dome at America’s Center. Despite entering as the league’s top rushing team, St. Louis was outgained 388-240 in total yardage and held to just 83 rushing yards as the team grossly failed to compete or cover the closing UFL odds. Quarterback Max Duggan finished 7-of-14 for 105 yards and a rushing touchdown, while also contributing a key drive that set up a 2-yard score by RB Jacob Saylors. Saylors ended with 45 rushing yards on nine carries and a touchdown. Backup QB Brandon Silvers added a spark with a 40-yard pass to Jahcour Pearson and a 12-yard touchdown strike to WR Hakeem Butler, cutting D.C.’s lead to 26-12 in the third quarter.
The BattleHawks defense forced two turnovers, including a Myles Jones interception and a fumble recovery opportunity, but struggled to contain D.C.’s powerful ground game. The Defenders rushed for 187 yards—led by Deon Jackson’s 109 and two touchdowns—and consistently capitalized on short fields, aided by BattleHawks penalties and stalled drives. St. Louis trailed 14-0 early and never fully recovered. Despite scoring late in the second quarter and again in the third, the BattleHawks couldn’t sustain momentum. A Duggan touchdown run with 2:12 left capped the scoring. Defensive lapses, special teams miscues, and an inability to convert on key third downs plagued the BattleHawks throughout. D.C. dominated time of possession and dictated game flow with efficient drives and field position. St. Louis’ record-setting rushing attack faltered when it mattered most, with the team exiting the postseason due to being unable to match D.C.’s balanced offensive execution and disruptive defense.
