Old School Meets New School
It’s not how we thought it would happen, but we will get the championship series that everyone expected in Korea when KT Rolster takes on SK Telecom T1 in the 2017 Spring Split. KT was a relative disappointment for much of the regular season and the first little bit of the playoffs, but put it all together in a virtuoso performance against Samsung Galaxy. Now KT will get one more chance to show that they are better than SKT when it matters most, in the Grand Final....
G2 has looked like the best team in Europe throughout the Spring Split, but is definitely vulnerable. With a chance to secure an undefeated regular season, G2 lost to a resurgent ROCCAT which nearly led to Fnatic missing the playoffs. They are still the favorites to claim the Spring Split title, but don’t count out Fnatic. In the other bout, Unicorns of Love brings their hectic style to the rift once again in a showdown with Misfits. The winners of these matches will meet next week with a trip to the Mid-Season Invitational in Rio on the line....
This weekend the Quarterfinals will kick off in North America as Phoenix1 takes on Dignitas and Counter Logic Gaming squares off against FlyQuest. Both quarterfinals matches should be pretty tight as when they played in the regular season, the opposing sides not only won a match each, but finished tied in total games won as well. On the line will be championship points and prize money with the winners of these quarterfinals matches guaranteeing themselves at least $20,000 and 30 championship points while the losers receive no prize money and earn just 10 championship points....
Entering the last week of the Spring Split regular season, five of the six playoff spots in Europe have been set. G2 leads the way at an undefeated 12-0, but is the shakiest undefeated team you can imagine and is far from invincible. That sets up for a wild ride once the playoffs start with virtually every team in the postseason standing some chance of winning the title and earning a bid to the Mid-Season Invitational. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the major stories before the regular season ends....
Shanghai plays host to the next DOTA 2 major next week when the Asia Championships kick off. 12 teams are competing for the $200,000 first prize with half of those being Chinese squads. However, the teams with the shortest odds are the three European teams who are participating in the tournament. That’s not too much of a surprise after Team Liquid won the last major championship in Shanghai and with how strong Europe has appeared lately. The winner here will put itself in great shape heading into the Kiev Major next month....

Entering Week 3 of the Spring Split in Korea, the top of the leaderboard isn’t a surprise to anyone. KT Rolster and SK Telecom T1 are both undefeated and look destined to play for the Spring Championship at the end of the year. However, further down the leaderboard we have seen some interesting results with Kongdoo Monster and Jin Air Green Wings sitting at 0-3 and MVP holding the same record as ROX Tigers. This split, the middle of the table seems to be up for grabs with most of the players at similar skill levels, but that’s why they play the games....
G2 has picked up right where it left off from last year’s Summer Split. The defending European champions don’t seem to have let a poor performance at the 2016 World Championships keep them down for too long and knocked off Fnatic and ROCCAT in the opening week of action. This week in their lone match, they will face a Misfits squad that has been surprisingly impressive early on in a match that will leave only one undefeated team in Group A....
A new year is upon us and new champions are set to emerge in Starcraft 2 in 2017. Although many of the same faces are around, there is a lot of new blood set to debut this season. The first big tournament of the year is already underway as 32 players are competing to see who will win 2017 GSL Season 1 in South Korea. The winner will receive a little over $35,000 and an automatic spot in the WCS Global Playoffs....
The Esports Championship Series Season 2 Finals will be the last premier tournament of the season for CS:GO and four North American teams will square off against four European teams for a shot at the title. The European squads are the favorites heading into this one, but the tournament is in Anaheim which will give the North American sides an advantage....
ELeague Season 2 is wrapping up this week in Atlanta and the Quarterfinals kicked off on Wednesday. The left side of the bracket gave us two exciting, hard-fought series that had to go to a decisive third game and TBS hopes the two Quarterfinals matches on Thursday will be just as tight....
The CS:GO season is winding to a close and the last DreamHack premier event of the year will take place this weekend in Jonkoping, Sweden. There are eight teams vying for glory in one of the final events of the season and a win here can give one of these sides confidence heading into next year. Who will take down the $50,000 first prize and who will be left telling their fans to wait until 2017?...
The Starcraft II WCS Global Finals are down to the final eight players and the champion will be decided this week at BlizzCon 2016. After some unexpected dropouts before the tournament started, we’ve been left with some surprises in the Quarterfinals and that has given lesser-known players the opportunity to shine. Whoever wins will receive a $200,000 prize so the stakes are high this weekend....
It all comes down to this. On Saturday, October 29, 2016, the Staples Center will host the sixth League of Legends World Championship. For the second year in a row, we will see an all-Korean final as defending champion SK Telecom T1 looks to make it their third title in four years when they take on Samsung Galaxy. SKT are the heavy favorites, but SSG has shifted into a different gear lately. Who will win this clash of Korean titans?...
How dominant have Korean teams been in League of Legends? Korean teams have won the last three World Championships, placed three teams in this year’s Semifinal, and last season brought us our first ever all-Korean Final. Samsung Galaxy is aiming to win its second World Championship and bring us an all-Korean final for the second year in a row, but H2K are looking to stop them and become the first European team to be crowned champions since Fnatic won the inaugural tournament....
Madison Square Garden will play host to the semi-finals of the most important League of Legends show of the season. Any doubts that another region is ready to challenge Korea have been put to rest as all three Korean teams have made it to the semi-finals. SK Telecom T1 won the 2013 and 2015 World Championships and are looking to be the first team ever to win back-to-back titles, while ROX Tigers finally upended SKT in the Summer Playoffs and are looking for their first ever championship....
The best-of-one group stage is over and now we are on to Chicago for the Quarterfinals. The Quarterfinals will feature a best-of-five format with the winner moving on to Madison Square Garden for the Semi-finals and a chance to win the million-dollar prize awarded to the champion. This Friday night, the defending champions will take the main stage as SK Telecom T1 faces Royal Never Give Up....
The best-of-one group stage is over and now we are on to Chicago for the Quarterfinals. The Quarterfinals will feature a best-of-five format with the winner moving on to Madison Square Garden for the Semi-finals. Thursday night will feature one of the top teams from Korea, Samsung Galaxy, facing off against the only North American team left, Cloud9....
The second half of the LoL group stages kicked off on Thursday night and by early Monday morning, we will have the eight teams that will represent their respective regions in Chicago. ROX Tigers and Albus NoX Luna have already punched their tickets and now the question is which other teams will be joining them in the Windy City....
