CS:GO ECS Finals Betting Odds - Should Astralis be the favorite to win the last CounterStrike event of the year

eSports-Update-bm-dec

The Esports Championship Series Season 2 Finals will be the last premier tournament of the season for CS:GO and four North American teams will square off against four European teams for a shot at the title. The European squads are the favorites heading into this one, but the tournament is in Anaheim which will give the North American sides an advantage.

It’s quite surprising to see a team that has yet to win a tournament this year as the favorite. Astralis has been putting up solid performances lately, grabbing second place in ELeague, and made the semi-finals of IEM XI, but has yet to break through with a tournament victory.

The Danish squad were the favorites to win ELeague, but were upset by OpTic in the final. Astralis took the first game of the series 16-9, but OpTic outplayed them on both Cobblestone and Overpass to take home the $400,000 grand prize.

Dev1ce is considered one of the top players in the world and has made Astralis very competitive since joining the roster earlier this season. If he plays well, Dev1ce can win the whole tournament.

SK Gaming and Dignitas were considered favorites to win this event just a week or two ago, but sudden departures have led to questions about both rosters.

SK Gaming was hailed as the best team in the world for much of the year, but perceived in-fighting has led the team to bench fnx before this match due to a difference of opinions. That benching meant that SK had to sign someone as the team hasn’t had a reserve unit since moving from Luminosity to SK Gaming in late June. SK brought on former FaZe player fox, and while he is talented, he has not played with SK Gaming before.

Sometimes you forget how young some of these gamers really are. Dignitas has featured MagiskboY for much of the season and he has proven his worth since getting let go by SK. However, MagiskboY will be unavailable for the tournament since he had to head back to Denmark in order to take his school exams. His absence means that valde of Heroic will step up and play in his place for one tournament at least.

If you thought that OpTic would be a bigger favorite after winning ELeague, you’re wrong. The odds on OpTic have shifted downward a bit since the historic win, but most saw it as an underdog just getting hot at the right time. OpTic did knock off Astralis to win the tournament, but doing that again will be very difficult.

Now that we’ve gotten some of the other sides out of the way, let’s discuss who you should put your money on in this tournament. FaZe has been picking up steam lately and are a side playing just as good as anyone in the world. The addition of Karrigan in mid-October has greatly boosted this team’s fortunes and snaring them at this price is solid.

On the other side of the bracket, EnVyUs doesn’t have to play some of the European teams that have been its bugaboo, like Natus Vincere or Virtus Pro. Also, it is the clear favorite to win its group with SK Gaming and Dignitas playing down a starter. A smaller bet on EnVyUs is in order too.
