Of all the major League of Legends regions, none is more interesting than North Korea right now. While Europe and Korea have the expected powers competing for the top spot, North America has seen a number of surprises and disappointments. Cloud9 has been the biggest surprise and is currently undefeated, while Team Dignitas has easily been the biggest disappointment and may not even make the postseason. Each team will look for wins against Team Liquid and Immortals on Friday evening.

Cloud9 -700
Team Liquid +525

What a start to the season it’s been for Cloud9. The North American side that finished last year with a bang has taken that momentum into the Spring Split and looks to be the team to beat. Contractz has been one of the best young junglers we’ve seen in some time despite being unable to buy a pack of cigarettes and finding a diamond in the rough like him has helped this team immensely. His KDA is second-highest among junglers in North America and he also has the second most assists of any jungler, consistently participating in kills. Placing him with experienced talent like Smoothie and Jensen has proven wise but he has to stay sharp and not hit a rookie wall.

Team Liquid has had a little bit of drama this week. The team had originally designed to play two mid-laners this season, changing them in and out based on the matchup, but decided to nix that plan this week. Goldenglue and Link were supposed to share the role, but Link never impressed the team in practice and it was decided that he needed to start looking elsewhere.

Liquid has been a mixed bag this season, taking down Echo Fox and CLG, but coming up short against Team SoloMid and Team EnVyUs. Reignover was supposed to be much better in the jungle but hasn’t been the player expected as of yet, nor has Goldenglue despite the team’s choosing to stick with him.

Team Dignitas -120
Immortals +100

What a disappointing start to the season for Team Dignitas. The team that most observers lauded for making shrewd offseason pickups has failed to come together and is in danger of being this year’s Longzhu Gaming. Perhaps the biggest individual disappointment has been Ssumday, who was considered one of the best top laners in Korea last season with KT Rolster and whose signing was considered a sign that North America was ready to finally play with the big boys. Ssumday has just a 2.8 KDA and has only shown flashes of brilliance.

He will be facing off against a fellow Korean in the top lane in Immortals’ Flame. Flame and Immortals have also been a disappointment following their 16-2 regular season run in the Summer Split last year. Flame was part of last year’s Longzhu Gaming debacle and has got to start wondering if it’s really him or if he has just been very unlucky. He has almost double the amount of deaths as kills and a relatively weak kill percentage.

Look for Dignitas to emerge victorious in this battle of disappointments. Flame has been noticeably worse than Ssumday and Dignitas has the player advantage in most other positions. A win would be huge and finally take them out of the cellar.
