LCK Korea Spring Split Finals Betting Preview - The Third Telecom War

eSports-Coverage-04-20-bm

It’s not how we thought it would happen, but we will get the championship series that everyone expected in Korea when KT Rolster takes on SK Telecom T1 in the 2017 Spring Split. KT was a relative disappointment for much of the regular season and the first little bit of the playoffs, but put it all together in a virtuoso performance against Samsung Galaxy. Now KT will get one more chance to show that they are better than SKT when it matters most, in the Grand Final.

SK Telecom T1 -170

KT Rolster +145

KT was absolutely phenomenal against Samsung, routing them 3-0 in games that on average were just 30 minutes long. We all knew how good KT was individually, especially in the laning phase, but for the first time all season, we saw this team play as a well-oiled unit last week. Disposing of Samsung, the team universally regarded as the team with the best chemistry in the world, in the matter they did shows what this team is fully capable of when clicking on all cylinders.

As for SKT, no one at all was surprised to see them once again win the Spring Split in the regular season. Although Peanut has not been good as expected in the Jungle, the combination of Huni and Profit in the top lane has been fantastic and the new additions have kept up this team’s winning ways. Winning here would send them back to the Mid-Season Invitational for the third straight season.

PRIOR MEETINGS

These two teams met twice midway through the regular season with both series going to the decisive third game. SKT ended up winning both, but the margin was extremely close, and it wouldn’t have been a surprise to see KT pull out either series with how it played.

The script was eerily familiar in almost all of the games they played earlier this season. KT would jump out to a small lead thanks to a great solo kill or some other mechanically solid play and then either snowball that lead to a rout or drop a team fight to SKT and end up losing a long drawn out match. That inability to win team fights against SKT beforehand killed this team, but there is renewed hope KT can pull off the upset following what we saw against Samsung.

PREDICTIONS

Everyone around the world will be tuning into this one and it’s a shame that only one of these teams will be at MSI. These are undisputedly the two best League of Legends teams in the world at this point and barring something crazy will be the two favorites heading into Worlds.

This is Smeb’s chance to show that he can finally beat SKT. Although he got the better of top laner Duke at times with the ROX Tigers in 2016, Huni and Profit have both mitigated his effectiveness in the Spring Split. Even on his best champion, Rumble, he has not stood out and made the plays that led many to believe that he was the best player in the world in 2016.

It’s now or never for KT. This team finally seemed to put it all together last week and has what it takes to knock off the champs. We’re going to say that the third time is the charm and call for KT to reign supreme in Korea.
