2025 Texas Tech Red Raiders Week 2 Betting Lines
In their season opener, the Texas Tech Red Raiders had what was expected to be a gimme game against the UAPB Golden Lions. Texas Tech wrote a sizable check to UAPB to fund its athletic program. In turn, UAPB agreed to be the clubbed baby seal. Texas Tech did as expected in a rout. The Red Raiders ran up massive numbers despite the game being shortened due to storms. This week, the Red Raiders have another winnable game against a marginally better opponent. The Kent State Golden Flashes of the MAC and Group of Six will visit Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday in what gamblers see as another mismatch.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Weekly Matchup
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the Texas Tech Red Raiders will host the Kent State Golden Flashes at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, TX. Kickoff time is noon ET with television coverage on TNT.
Last game, the Kent State Golden Flashes beat Merrimack 21-17 as 5.5-point home favorites. The game went under the total of 50.5.
Da'Realyst Clark returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to lift Kent State to a win over Merrimack on Saturday, ending the Golden Flashes' 21-game losing streak in interim coach Mark Carney's first game. The Warriors took their only lead on a 45-yard field goal by Carlton Thai with 5:40 to play. A turnover set up the score.
Clark then fielded the ensuing kickoff a couple of yards deep in the end zone and burst up the right hash marks. He bounced off a couple of players just past the 30, kept his balance and raced to the end zone. The last win for the Golden Flashes was a 38-10 decision over Central Connecticut, three games into the 2023 season.
A pair of touchdown receptions by Cade Wolford — from C.J. Montes for 30 yards in the second quarter and from Dru DeShields covering 79 yards early in the third — staked the Golden Flashes to a 14-3 lead. Merrimack then scored on three of four possessions. Ayden Pereira found Seth Sweitzer behind the defense for 36 yards and then hit Aveon Smith for the 2-point conversion that made it 14-14.
The Warriors covered 34 yards in 11 plays before turning the ball over on downs at the Kent State 41 with 1:42 to play. Wolford had two catches for 109 yards for Kent State. Merrimack's Pereira threw for 176 yards and ran for 103.
Texas Tech Red Raiders Weekly Recap
Last game, the Texas Tech Red Raiders beat Arkansas Pine Bluff 67-7 as 55-point home favorites. The game went over the total of 63.5.
Behren Morton threw four touchdown passes Saturday night before departing in the second quarter with an injury as No. 23 Texas Tech routed Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Morton, who completed 16 of 18 attempts for 201 yards, left the game after linebacker Tayvon Hardwick hit him on the lower right leg and was called for roughing the passer. Morton stayed in for one more play, handing off to J’Koby Williams for a 5-yard touchdown, and went to the locker room for treatment.
That, along with a weather delay that lasted nearly an hour, was the only thing to slow down the Red Raiders. The teams agreed to play eight-minute quarters in the second half, but Texas Tech still managed 608 total yards and 34 first downs.
Cameron Dickey added 90 yards and a score on 12 rushes for the Red Raiders, while Terrance Carter Jr. caught two touchdown passes. A total of 12 players caught at least one pass. Morton started a 47-point onslaught in the first half by finding Reggie Virgil for a 9-yard scoring strike.

Since going 11-2 in 2008, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have never reached double-digit wins in a season. The Red Raiders were a consistent bowl program under head coach Mike Leach, who was fired in what some might describe as a "little league dad" incident. This occurred when commentator Craig James complained about how Leach treated his son, which ultimately led to Leach's firing. The Texas Tech Red Raider program has never recovered from botching that decision. Texas Tech has not finished in the national Top 25 since 2009 and has never produced a Top 10 finish in its history.
Located in the West Texas town of Lubbock, Texas Tech is in a remote location that is not conducive to recruiting top players. However, the Red Raiders do boast a passionate and committed donor base with ample financial resources to shake things up and make Texas Tech a Big 12 contender. With Joey McGuire as head coach, Texas Tech has the man with the necessary connections to procure talent that the donors can keep happy.
Famed Texas Tech players of the past include Donny Anderson, EJ Holub, Zach Thomas, Michael Crabtree, and Patrick Mahomes.
Mike Leach remains the winningest coach in Texas Tech history followed by Spike Dykes and Pete Cawthon.
