2025 NFL Sunday Night Football Week 2 Betting Lines

NFL Sunday Night Football Betting

It’s going to be difficult for the Week 2 Sunday Night Football contest to live up to what happened in the opener. In an instant classic the Bills rallied behind MVP Josh Allen to stun Baltimore 41-40 in a Week 1 battle of AFC heavyweights. We switch conferences in Week 2 with the Atlanta Falcons visiting the Minnesota Vikings. Both teams are pinning their hopes on young quarterbacks who were drafted among the top 10 two spots apart in the 2024 NFL Draft.

A preseason injury last year forced J.J. McCarthy to miss the entire season. The Vikings have so much confidence in the 10th overall pick that they allowed Sam Darnold, who led the club to 14 wins in 2024, to walk in free agency. In his first pro start McCarthy led the Vikings to a comeback win over the Bears on Monday Night Football throwing a pair of touchdown passes and rushing for another score. Taken eighth in the 2024 draft, Michael Penix started the final three games of last season with the Falcons going 1-2. Both setbacks came in overtime. Tying for the most home wins in the NFL last season, the Vikings opened as a 4.5-point NFL betting line favorite.

Vikings vs. Falcons SNF Week 2 Lines

Spread: Vikings -5

Total: 45

Money Line: Vikings -226 / Falcons +193

It was a disappointing opener for the Falcons, who haven’t qualified for the playoffs since the 2017 season. They haven’t even had a winning season since then topping out at eight wins in 2024. One of the big reasons for their lack of success over the past seven seasons has been on defense, where the Falcons have ranked 18th or worse in points allowed. Last year the Falcons ranked 23rd in the NFL allowing an average of 24.9 points and they were next to last with just 31 sacks.

With the exception of allowing a late eventual game-winning touchdown pass, the Atlanta defense played a strong game in Week 1. The group held Baker Mayfield to 167 passing yards and the Bucs to 260 total yards. However, Mayfield had three scoring passes, including what turned out to be the winner in the final minute of the fourth quarter. The Falcons caught a break when the missed PAT left them within a field goal of tying the game.

Penix finished 27 of 42 for 298 yards and drove the team into field goal range in the waning seconds. One of the most reliable kickers in the NFL over the last several seasons, Younghoe Koo missed a 44-yard attempt that would’ve tied the game and the Falcons fell 23-20. Despite a nice performance, the run game lacked averaged only 2.5 yards a carry. Bijan Robinson had 100 receiving yards but just 24 yards on 12 rush attempts.

The Vikings showed a lot of faith in McCarthy, who until Monday had a handful of preseason snaps as his only NFL experience. And it took three quarters before the offense finally got on track. In fact, the Bears defense scored as many points as the Minnesota offense through the first 45 minutes. McCarthy tossed a pick-six in the third that gave Chicago a 17-6 bulge.

McCarthy composed himself in the fourth quarter accounting for all three touchdowns. His two scoring passes came less than three minutes with the first of his career to Justin Jefferson. The Vikings held on for the 27-24 triumph, their eighth in nine games with the Bears.

Minnesota has also had the better of Atlanta in recent meetings winning two straight and six of the last seven head to head encounters. The only loss in that span came in Minnesota during the 2020 season, 40-23, that started a run of three straight games that played OVER the closing total.
