2025 NFL Monday Night Wild Card Betting Lines

It took until the finals seconds of the last game of the regular season for the Pittsburgh Steelers to qualify for the postseason. We won’t know if they advance in the tournament until the final game of Wild Card Weekend. Beating division rival Baltimore on Sunday night to win the AFC North, the Steelers got the No. 4 seed and will host the Houston Texans in a first round matchup on Monday Night Football. Winning a division title has to mean something or why even have divisions. Despite having the fewest wins of any AFC playoff team, the Steelers get homefield advantage against the 12-win Texans.

I’m not sure many saw Houston rising to the No. 5 seed in the conference after the Texans opened the year with three straight losses. Backed by a nasty defense they won 12 of their final 14 games, including nine in a row to end the regular season. An inconsistent offense could hurt Houston’s chances of reaching the Super Bowl for the first time, but if defense wins championships don’t count them out. The Texans opened as one of three road favorites on Wild Card Weekend with the total of 39.5 the lowest on the board.

Over the course of the season the Houston defense held nine opponents to 17 points or less and they finished the year No. 1 in total defense and No. 2 in scoring defense allowing an average of 18.3 points. They were also good at creating turnovers with their 29 takeaways third-most in the NFL and their plus-17 turnover margin second to only Chicago. The Texans forced at least one turnover in all but two games and had 16 during their season-ending winning streak.

Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson combined for 27 sacks and need to disrupt Pittsburgh’s short passing game. And the Texans have perhaps the best pair of corners in the NFL in Derek Stingley and Kamari Lassiter. They tied for the team lead with four interceptions and helped Houston allow fewer than 185 passing yards per game.

There are some concerns on offense, but with a dominant defense the Texans don’t need to do a lot. They scored 38 points beating the Colts on Sunday and also tallied 40 points against Arizona in Week 15. But they scored 20 points or less nine times during the year and averaged less than 22 offensive points, ranking them in the middle of the NFL pack. In addition to playing strong defense the Texans value the football with their 12 giveaways the second fewest in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers has three MVP awards and a Super Bowl ring and he was brought to Pittsburgh to win games in January. He delivered last week throwing the eventual game-winning TD pass with less than a minute to play rallying the Steelers to a 26-24 win over the Ravens. He had season-highs of 31 completions and 294 passing yards in the contest. The Steelers won outright as a 4.5-point dog giving them four payouts in their last five games.

An offense that ranked 25th in total yards and 15th in scoring should be bolstered by the return of DK Metcalf, who completed his 2-game suspension on Sunday. Metcalf has a team-best 850 receiving yards and six TDs averaging more than 14 yards per catch. Kenneth Gainwell will also play a role in how the Steelers attack Houston’s defense. Gainwell had over 1,000 scrimmage yards and leads the team with 73 receptions.

This is the first playoff meeting between the teams and the first game overall since Week 4 of the 2023 season, a 30-6 Houston home win snapping a 3-game slide in the series. In his first game against the Steelers Stroud was on point throwing for 306 yards and two TDs without a turnover in the victory.
