Los Angeles Wildcats XFL Betting

The Los Angeles Wildcats were a team that definitely had the look of one worthy of consideration on the XFL Championship betting odds once Josh Jackson took over under center for Winston Moss. On top of owning one of the best color pallets in the league, the Wildcats backed it up with a deadly offense capable of striking anywhere on the field at a moment’s notice. Just ask the Tampa Bay Vipers whom the Wildcats most recently defeated by battling back from a 24-6 second quarter deficit to come out on top 41-34 and cover the closing 3-point spread; much to the chagrin of online sportsbooks who took in nothing but LA money all week. As it stands, the Wildcats finished in third place of the Western Conference with 2-3 SU and ATS records with the over cashing in three of their five played games.

2020 Season Recap

The 2020 XFL betting season began with a bang for the Wildcats who got out to a 17-12 first half lead against Houston. Little did the team know that the Roughnecks would become all the rage over the next four weeks, and they proceeded as such by outscoring LA 19-0 in the second half to cruise to the 37-17 win and cover as slight home favorites. But even in defeat and not having its starting QB under center, Los Angeles was only outgained 315-289 and tallied more first downs, but losing the turnover battle 3:1 ultimately sealed their fate. The team fell to 0-2 SU and ATS the following week when it dropped a 25-18 decision to the Dallas Renegades as 5-point underdogs to fall to 0-2 SU and ATS in divisional play. Johnson took his first snaps of the regular season and was rusty in throwing for just 185 yards while completing 53 percent of his passes. He did however throw a pair of touchdown strikes to Nelson Spruce who electrified the league the first three weeks of the season.

LA would taste the thrill of victory for the first time in Week 3 when it lambasted what was then the undefeated DC Defenders 39-9 as short home underdogs. Johnson would go on to throw for 278 yards and a perfect 3:0 TD/INT ratio with two of the strikes going to Tre McBride who was making his first appearance of the 2020 season as well as RB Martez Carter who would account for 75 combined yards and three total TD. Unfortunately, Carter and Spruce would miss the following week’s game in New York where it would go on to drop a disappointing 17-14 decision to the Guardians as short road chalk. A pair of missed Nick Novak field goals ultimately sealed the deal in the second half. The disappointment of dropping that game in the Big Apple seemed to carry over in Week 5 when the Wildcats returned homer to oppose the Vipers. Tampa Bay took it to the home team right from the opening kick and looked to be well on its way towards winning a second straight game. Then all of a sudden, the Wildcats offense got in a groove and it was all LA from that point forward. Trailing 24-20 at the break, Los Angeles would outscore Tampa Bay 21-10 the rest of the way to log the impressive come-from-behind win and cover as short home chalk.

Team MVPs

Josh Johnson – The Wildcats offense was simply one of the best in the league with former NFL QB Johnson under center. He ended up throwing for 1,076 yards which sat only behind PJ Walker’s 1,338 passing yards for the season. Remember though, Johnson missed Week 1. Regardless, he finished his 2020 campaign ripping the Vipers for 288 passing yards and a 4:1 TD/INT ratio. He also did most of his damage without the services of Nelson Spruce who missed the Wildcats final two games. The fact that he compiled a solid 11:2 TD/INT ratio could have NFL scouts sniffing around, but Johnson didn’t do much in his first go round at the pro level so he’s not likely to garner much interest heading into the 2020-21 NFL season.

Tre McBride – Someone who could receive a number of phone calls and texts could be the former William and Mary standout. McBride missed the first two weeks of the season with a leg injury, but made the most of his time the final three weeks of the season after reeling in 16 receptions and turning them into 4 TD and 271 yards receiving. Only four other receivers went for more yards than that, and each and every one of them got a full five game allotment to do so in. He’ll should at the very least get an invite to an NFL camp. What he does with it remains to be seem, but the kids got talent that looks like it can be utilized at the next level.
