The TD pass for Hartman was his 107th in his career, tying Tahj Boyd, a former Clemson quarterback, for the most in ACC history.

Todd Pelino of Duke made field goals from 42 and 32 in the opening period, which saw the Blue Devils lead 20-17. In a five and a half minute span early in the second quarter, Leonard found Hagans for 30 yards and Jaylen Calhoun for 46 as Duke increased its lead to 17-7. With 1:50 remaining in the half, Matthew Dennis' 32-yard field goal leveled the score after Hartman's 8-yard completion to Donavon Greene for a score.
