Winnipeg Jets Stanley Cup Betting Odds
Last year was the end of an era for the Winnipeg Jets. Head coach Paul Maurice was with the Jets from 2013-14 through 2021-22 and had enough. Maurice waved the white flag and quit after a 13-11-5 start. Maurice said the team needed a new voice. But the Jets were no better after he left, going 26-22-6 and missing the playoffs. Maurice led the team to its best regular season in 2017-18. Winnipeg went 52-20-10 for 114 points and made the Conference final. However, the Jets lost to the expansion Vegas Golden Knights in shocking fashion. Winnipeg was never again so close or serious to a championship. Veteran retread Rick Bowness is the new head coach.

General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has been in his role since the Jets arrived from Atlanta in June 2011. He has been given solid marks for his tenure. Cheveldayoff is a methodical builder, and the Jets have proven to be a stable, if unspectacular, organization.
Head coach Rick Bowness spent the last three years in that role for the Dallas Stars. Bowness, age 67, is an NHL lifer that has been in the NHL or minor pros since 1975 as a player and coach. At Dallas, Bowness had a record of 89-62-25 and led the Stars to the 2020 Stanley Cup Final.

Winnipeg Jets History
Founded in 1999 as the Atlanta Thrashers, the franchise moved to Winnipeg in 2011 due to ownership issues in the Peach State. This is the second iteration of the Winnipeg Jets.
The first Jets franchise was founded in 1972 as a World Hockey Association charter member. The franchise was named “Jets” in honor of signing Chicago Blackhawks superstar Bobby Hull to a record contract before their first campaign. The Jets merged into the NHL in 1979 but moved to Arizona in 1996 due to attendance, arena, and Canadian dollar issues. These days Winnipeg sells out every game and has among the best and most creative fans in the NHL.
The long-term concern for the Jets and their fans is if they can ever really win a Stanley Cup. Winnipeg. In 2017-18 it seemed as if the Jets were on the cusp. But in the Western Conference Final, Winnipeg was upset by the expansion Vegas Golden Knights. That was the only conference final in team history, and the Jets have never come that close since.
Winnipeg remains a difficult sell for free agent players. And free agent coaches for that manner. In the summer of 2022, local product Barry Trotz was available in the head coaching market. But after serious talks with the Jets, Trotz decided not to take the job. The best players in the NHL never consider coming to Winnipeg, known for its harsh winters. And the Jets are often in danger of losing their best players for that reason, as well as oppressive Canadian taxes.
