Winnipeg Jets 2024 Stanley Cup Odds

Last year, the Winnipeg Jets suffered a first-round playoff exit against the Vegas Golden Knights that set off head coach Rick Bowness. Bowness implied that his team was not all in and not dedicated enough to finish. This year, the Jets responded with a strong start that put them in a fight with the much more respected Colorado Avalanche for the Central Division lead. The Jets were ignored in the summer NHL future market but gamblers are paying attention now. Now that the question is if the Jets can sustain their upstart success in the season’s second half.

Winnipeg Jets History

Founded in 1999 as the Atlanta Thrashers, the franchise moved to Winnipeg in 2011 due to ownership issues in the Peach State. This is the second iteration of the Winnipeg Jets.

The first Jets franchise was founded in 1972 as a World Hockey Association charter member. The franchise was named “Jets” in honor of signing Chicago Blackhawks superstar Bobby Hull to a record contract before their first campaign. The Jets merged into the NHL in 1979 but moved to Arizona in 1996 due to attendance, arena, and Canadian dollar issues. These days Winnipeg sells out every game and has among the best and most creative fans in the NHL.

The long-term concern for the Jets and their fans is if they can ever really win a Stanley Cup. Winnipeg. In 2017-18 it seemed as if the Jets were on the cusp. But in the Western Conference Final, Winnipeg was upset by the expansion Vegas Golden Knights. That was the only conference final in team history, and the Jets have never come that close since.

Winnipeg remains a difficult sell for free agent players. And free agent coaches for that manner. In the summer of 2022, local product Barry Trotz was available in the head coaching market. But after serious talks with the Jets, Trotz decided not to take the job. The best players in the NHL never consider coming to Winnipeg, known for its harsh winters. And the Jets are often in danger of losing their best players for that reason, as well as oppressive Canadian taxes.
