Ottawa Senators 2025-26 NHL Betting Lines
In 2024-25, the Ottawa Senators made the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Indeed, it was a significant sign of progress. Now, fans and gamblers rightfully ask if the Sens can keep it going or if it was a 1-off. A change of ownership certainly helped. So, a methodical and lengthy rebuild was undertaken. While there was not a lot of excitement regarding the hiring of head coach Travis Green in the offseason, he proved to be the right man at the right time. With young stars such as Tim Stutzle, Drake Batherson, and Brady Tkachuk, the Senators have a good core to build around.

Off-Season Moves for 2025-26
In: Lars Eller, Jordan Spence
Out: Adam Gaudette, Travis Hamonic, Anton Forsberg
One of Ottawa’s biggest issues last season was a wretched third pair. Regardless of the combination of Tyler Kleven, Nikolas Matinpalo, and Travis Hamonic on the ice, things did not go well. The addition of Jordan Spence helps alleviate that. He’s someone with a proven ability to crush sheltered minutes. Some may scoff at the idea of a third-pair powerhouse, but the Senators weren’t getting anything close to what Spence can offer in the same role.
Spence, based on his numbers after accounting for usage, looks like a player who has the potential to make a top-four jump. That’s the best-case scenario, which would push Nick Jensen to a more appropriate role. If the worst case is that Spence can’t (likely due to his smaller stature), but keeps crushing soft minutes, that’s still a big win that has moved the needle considerably for the Senators.
Ottawa may not have filled its biggest need (a top-line forward), but cleaning up the edges of the roster has put them on more stable playoff footing going into next season.
Key Players
Tim Stutzle’s NHL career began in 2020-21 with Ottawa. He was the third overall pick of the 2020 NHL Draft out of Germany. In 2024, he scored 18 goals with 52 assists. This past season, he led the Sens with 24 goals, 55 assists, 79 points, and a +0.
LW Brady Tkachuk was the 4th overall pick of the 2018 NHL Draft and has played his entire NHL career with Ottawa. Tkachuk made his 4th All-Star game appearance this season. In 2024, he scored 37 goals with 37 assists. This past year, Tkachuk scored 29 goals with 26 assists for 55 points.
D Jake Sanderson is in his third year in the NHL with the Senators. He was named to the 2023 NHL All-Rookie team. Sanderson is a solid shutdown defenseman with playmaking ability and considerable upside at the age of 21. This past season, Sanderson had 11 goals, 46 assists, 57 points, and a -14 rating.
Goaltenders
Number one goaltender Linus Ullmark comes from the Boston Bruins. In 2024, he posted a 2.57 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. This past season, Ullmark has a 2.72 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. His record was 25-14-3 with four shutouts.
Head Coach
Head coach Travis Green previously served in that role for the Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils. He began the season with a career record is 186-189-42.

Ottawa Senators History
The Ottawa Senators were a 1992 expansion team that joined the league that year with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ottawa has long had a reputation for being a low-revenue and budget team that can’t afford superstars on the payroll. Ottawa made the 2007 Stanley Cup Final, losing to the Anaheim Ducks. It was their only appearance in the Final ever.
Ottawa has struggled to gain a foothold as a franchise with the masses. In Canada, the Toronto Maple Leafs are revered as kings, with the Montreal Canadiens also regarded as the most successful franchise of all time. The Senators have also struggled on the ice with more lean years than not. And that has caused them revenue problems and low attendance.
At the beginning of their existence, the Senators used the old Ottawa Civic Center as a temporary home. The rink sat well under 10,000 fans, but the hockey-starved city didn’t care. Ottawa played there from 1992 through December 31, 1995.
Originally, the idea of building the new arena in a remote area far from downtown was seen as a developmental opportunity. Now, it is seen as a disaster that almost cost Ottawa the franchise. Recently the team announced that they would move to a new downtown facility that is planned but not yet started. The team is expected to sign a new lease for the proposed facility soon, with groundbreaking to commence this year.
