Winnipeg Jets NHL Betting Lines

The Winnipeg Jets continue to break the hearts of their fans and the bankrolls of gamblers in the playoffs. Winnipeg is coming off another banner regular season that ended in playoff failure. In the second round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Jets were eliminated by the Dallas Stars in six games for another playoff heartache. The Winnipeg Jets are coming off a Presidents’ Trophy season as the best regular-season team in the NHL. But none of that matters compared to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Winnipeg qualified for the postseason for the seventh time in eight seasons this year. However, since their appearance in the 2018 Western Conference Final, the Jets have advanced to the second round only once (in 2021). Thus, Jets fans have a sense of bitterness. However, second-year head coach Scott Arniel could eventually be the difference.

Off-Season Moves for 2025-26

In: Gustav Nyquist, Jonathan Toews, Tanner Pearson

Out: Nikolaj Ehlers, Mason Appleton, Brandon Tanev

If it makes Jets fans feel any better, this is roughly where the Jets ended up on last year’s list — mostly as a result of being unable to retain several key deadline additions. This time around, it’s harder to see a silver lining, not after losing one of their most important forwards in Nikolaj Ehlers. He’s a true top-six scorer, one whose absence will be felt heavily in the team’s top six. Gustav Nyquist is far from an ideal stopgap.

On top of that, the Jets are betting heavily on hometown hero Jonathan Toews. It’s a wonderful story for Manitobans, but it’s fair to be skeptical about how much on-ice value Toews can actually provide, given his age, a significant absence from hockey and what he already was when he left. The best guess, based on his previous trajectory, is that Toews can be an acceptable 4C for the Jets this season. Winnipeg seems to be penciling him in as the team’s 2C, an incredibly ambitious goal that Toews will likely have a hard time reaching.

Knowing that they were going to lose Ehlers led to a conversation about how the Jets would fill the gap created by his exit. Signing Nyquist to a one-year contract was done with the belief that he can help the Jets retain the offensive balance they had last season, when 12 players finished with more than 10 goals. Pearson, who has scored more than 10 goals in nine seasons, could also play a role on that front.

Those arrivals still left the Jets with more than $18 million in cap space as they still seek to find a new contract with pending RFA forward Gabriel Vilardi, who was third on the team with 27 goals last season.

Key Players

LW Kyle Connor was the 17th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Jets, whom he has played for since 2017-18. This season, Connor has led Winnipeg with 41 goals, 55 assists, 96 points, and a +16.

C Mark Scheifele was the 7th overall pick of the 2011 NHL Draft by the Jets. Scheifele began his NHL career with the Jets in 2012-13. Scheifele is a two-time NHL All-Star. This past year, he has scored 38 goals, recorded 48 assists, accumulated 86 points, and maintained a +11 rating.

Number one defenseman Josh Morrissey has emerged as one of the NHL’s most complete blueliners. The Jets selected Morrissey 13th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft. This past year, Morrisey had 14 goals, 47 assists, 61 points, and a +16.

Goaltenders

Number one goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been a franchise stalwart since 2016-17. This past year, he has had a 2.02 goals against average and a .924 save percentage. His record is 46-12-3 with eight shutouts.

Head Coach

Head coach Rick Bowness retired at the end of 2024. Scott Arniel was named his replacement. He previously was the head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets and was an NHL assistant for a decade after that. Arniel has proven to be the perfect fit.

Winnipeg Jets History

Founded in 1999 as the Atlanta Thrashers, the franchise relocated to Winnipeg in 2011 due to ownership issues in the state of Georgia. This is the second iteration of the Winnipeg Jets.

The first Jets franchise was founded in 1972 as a charter member of the World Hockey Association. The franchise was named “Jets” in honor of signing Chicago Blackhawks superstar Bobby Hull to a record contract before their first campaign. The Jets merged into the NHL in 1979 but relocated to Arizona in 1996 due to issues with attendance, arena capacity, and the strength of the Canadian dollar. These days, Winnipeg sells out every game and has among the best and most creative fans in the NHL.

The long-term concern for the Jets and their fans is whether they can ever really win a Stanley Cup. Winnipeg. In 2017-18, it seemed as if the Jets were on the cusp. But in the Western Conference Final, Winnipeg was upset by the expansion Vegas Golden Knights. That was the only conference final in team history, and the Jets have never come that close since.

Winnipeg remains a difficult sell for free agent players—and free agent coaches in that manner. In the summer of 2022, local product Barry Trotz was available in the head coaching market. But after serious talks with the Jets, Trotz decided not to take the job. The best players in the NHL never consider coming to Winnipeg, known for its harsh winters. And the Jets are often in danger of losing their best players for that reason, as well as oppressive Canadian taxes.
