Saint Marys Gaels College Basketball Betting

Since taking over as head coach in 2001-02, Randy Bennett has led the St. Mary’s Gaels to the most successful era in program history. The Gaels will be rocking their dance shoes for the third consecutive season. St. Mary’s took the regular season title of the West Coast Conference, beating out arch-rival and traditional WCC power Gonzaga. And then, in the WCC Tournament, Saint Mary’s turned the trick again. The Gaels used one of the nation’s best defenses for their run of glory. Most important of all, the Gaels kept gamblers happy with reliable board value in the regular season.

On the one hand, Saint Mary's has been in the greatest era in its history. Coach Randy Bennett has led the Gaels to a total of eight NCAA Tournament bids since 2004-05There was a time not too long ago when Saint Mary's competed with Gonzaga for supremacy of the West Coast Conference. But as time has gone on, Gonzaga has emerged as a national power with a stranglehold on the WCC.

By contrast, Saint Mary's has been treading water in comparison. The Gaels last won the WCC regular season title in 2023. Their last WCC Tournament championship was in 2019. Saint Mary's is still a respected mid-major program but no longer as feared as they were a few seasons ago. But that may be changing after last year’s successful campaign.

One of the most significant upgrades for this year’s squad is the bench depth. Saint Mary’s starters played the seventh-most minutes in the nation last season, and only six players were on the floor for more than 20% of minutes last year. This year, eight or nine players could be in for significant minutes, as Harry Wessels, Mason Forbes, Jordan Ross, and Luke Barrett all helped to provide quality minutes off the bench and give the starters much-needed rest.
