WNBA basketball betting odds: The WNBA is starting to become a tremendously competitive league on a yearly basis. Gone are the years of dominance at the very top with so many teams that were nowhere near as competition, and seemingly here to stay are the years in which anyone could legitimately end up winning the title. The 2018 season shouldn't be any different, as there are at least a few reasons to think that every team can win the WNBA Finals.
Odds To Win WNBA Finals (Updated May 7)
Los Angeles Sparks +170
Minnesota Lynx +200
Phoenix Mercury +300
New York Liberty +500
Washington Mystics +600
Atlanta Dream +800
Seattle Storm +1000
Chicago Sky +1600
Indiana Fever +1600
Connecticut Sun +2500
Dallas Wings +4000
San Antonio Stars +4000
There's no reason to back off of the defending champs. The Sparks won the WNBA Finals last year in the fifth game of a great championship series. This year, essentially the entire team is back, the most notable of which are WNBA Finals MVP Candace Parker and WNBA regular season MVP Nneka Ogwumike. The Sparks are set at +170 to open the season, and there's no reason to think they won't ultimately find their way into the top four and earn a spot in the WNBA semifinals automatically.
The hope is the same for the Lynx, who have played in five of the last six WNBA Finals. Maya Moore is still in the prime of her career, and she's got a great supporting cast surrounding her as well. Minnesota has one of the best home court advantages in the league.
Perhaps the most interesting team of the bunch is the Mystics. They've never been to the WNBA Finals, but they made the biggest splash in the offseason by acquiring Elena Delle Donna, one of the top players in the league. That's going to leave Chicago in a bit of a lurch, but it definitely leaves the Mystics in a great position to be able to contend immediately after missing the postseason. There's a reason why they're the fourth favorites at +600 to capture this year's title.
Amongst the sleepers this season are the Storm. They were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs last season, and they'll enter this season as 10 to 1 longshots. Sue Bird is back for yet another run at a title, and Breanna Stewart should be set for a much better second campaign in the pros after her dominant run at UConn.

Back in the early days of the WNBA, there were the Comets, the Sparks, the Liberty and everybody else. These were really the dominant teams for quite some time thanks to a few of the true legends of the league, and after Houston won the first four championships in league history, LA followed that up with two titles.
But from that point forward, there was a lot more parity in the WNBA. Just as is the case in the NBA when superstars come in and change the way entire franchises look, that has happened with several teams along the way, most recently with Minnesota and Maya Moore, who has been at the forefront of three championship teams since 2011.
The one thing that has been hard to find in the WNBA? An East Coast champion. No team on the Atlantic Coast has ever won the WNBA title, and the only team east of the Mississippi River to win the title is Detroit.

The Comets have been holding firm onto their grip as the franchise with the most WNBA titles since the very beginning even though they haven't existed since 2008. There are four teams who have three titles under their belts, though it should be noted that the Detroit Shock are now known as the Dallas Wings. The Sparks, Mercury and Lynx have all won their three championships in the cities which they currently play. Indiana and Seattle are the only two other active teams in the WNBA to ever win the WNBA Finals.
The Lynx hold the record for the most WNBA Finals appearances with five, all of which have come since 2011.
The only team to never reach the WNBA Finals amongst the active franchises is Washington.
