NCAA Football Texas San Antonio Roadrunners Betting OddsNCAA Football Betting Online: The UTSA Roadrunners made the first bowl game in program history last year, as they played well under new coach Frank Wilson. The Roadrunners have some solid pieces back and a second consecutive bowl appearance is definitely the goal.

While UTSA isn’t a dominant program and is still only in its sixth year of Division I ball, the arrow seems to be pointing up. However, the Roadrunners are not the favorites in Conference USA and will need to win some key games in order to make the postseason again.

2017 UTSA Roadrunners at a Glance

UTSA Regular Season Win Total: 7

UTSA will put the offensive hopes on the back of Dalton Sturm, who threw for 2,170 yards with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions a season ago. He was sacked quite a bit and the protection needs to improve, and Sturm also needs to work on staying in the pocket when able.

He will get back top target Josh Stewart, who had 36 catches for 682 yards and five touchdowns a year ago. UTSA averaged 29.2 points per game last season and was up and down during games, scoring 20 points or fewer in four losses.

The defense has room to improve from a season ago, after allowing 27.9 points per contest. It will rely on linebacker Josiah Tauaefa, who had a fantastic freshman season with 115 tackles and six sacks. He will get help from Marcus Davenport, who had 6.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss a year ago.

UTSA aims to improve its run defense. If that happens, the Roadrunners have some talented pass-rushers who can get after the quarterback in passing situations.

The Roadrunners have plenty of talent returning on both sides of the ball as they hope to take another step forward. The non-conference schedule is challenging, but even a 2-2 record there could set them up for a good showing. UTSA was 5-3 in Conference USA action a season ago and would love to best that in 2017.

The Roadrunners seem to be trending in the right direction, and continuing to perform well could give them footing in Texas, which is such a football-rich state for recruiting. UTSA seems to be trending up and has the personnel in place to keep it rolling this season as long as the returners play up to their capabilities.

Larry Coker got the program up and running and found some success early on before the losses started to mount. However, Wilson made some strides a season ago and if he can keep it rolling, UTSA could be a fixture among the best teams in Conference USA moving forward.
