NCAA Football Bowling Green Falcons Betting OddsNCAA Football Betting Online: It seems like Bowling Green has never had a hard time finding a quality coach, the Falcons just can’t hold onto them for very long. Urban Meyer’s first gig came at BGSU and he turned a pair of winning seasons into a very lucrative career. Dave Clawson won 18 games in his final two years, including a Mid-American Conference title in 2013 before bolting to Wake Forest. Dino Babers was the last to use Bowling Green as a stepping stone, winning 18 games in two seasons before being lured away by Syracuse.

Falcons Regular Season Win Total: 4

Mike Jinks wasn’t left with much after Babers led a veteran team to 10 wins and a MAC title in 2015. So it wasn’t all that surprising that the Falcons couldn’t fly in 2016. Their four wins were the fewest for the program since 2010 and the Falcons had their string of three straight East titles and four straight bowl appearances end last year.

Last season got off to a horrendous start for Jinks and the Falcons. They opened with a 67-point loss at Ohio State and lost seven of their first eight games. The loss to the Buckeyes wasn’t even the worst of the bunch: a 77-3 drubbing by Memphis takes that honor. But the Falcons did regroup to win their final three contests.

BGSU was an offensive machine under Babers but that changed last season. The plan wasn’t to start a freshman quarterback, but when James Knapke struggled, Jinks went with James Morgan in the second half of the season. The offense performed better down the stretch with Morgan, though he did throw 15 picks. Lowering that number is a priority and the sophomore has a season in the system under his belt.

The receiving corps is good and the running game will be solid behind a big offensive line. The loss of leading rusher Fred Coppet hurts, but Josh Cleveland returns after running for 649 yards in 2016 when he amassed 242 yards in the three-game winning streak. Pass defense and turnovers killed the Falcons last season. Improvement in those areas, along with a seasoned offense, should get BG back in the bowl picture.

Bowling Green joined the MAC in 1952 and won half of its 12 league titles by the end of the 1965 season. During the 1959 campaign, the Falcons were a perfect 9-0 to earn their second MAC championship and were named National Champions of the NCAA College Division, now known as Division II.

The Falcons reached the major college level in 1962 and continued to be a force, winning MAC titles in 1962, 1964 and 1965. The Falcons were ranked for the first time in the AP poll, reaching No. 20 in 1973 when they ended the year with a 7-3 record. Another MAC title followed in 1982 when the Falcons also played in their first bowl game, losing the California Bowl. Three years later they won a program record 11 games, another MAC title and represented the conference again in the California Bowl with another loss.

The program’s first bowl victory came in 1991 as the Falcons won the California Bowl to cap an 11-1 season. Another bowl victory followed in 1992 during a 10-2 campaign, the only time as a major college program the Falcons won 10 or more games in back to back seasons. After six straight losing seasons, the Falcons hired Meyer in 1983. He went 17-6 in two seasons and left the program in good hands. The year after Meyer departed for Utah, the Falcons went 11-3, earned their highest ranking in the AP poll at No. 15 and won the Motor City Bowl.
