Duke Blue Devils NCAAF Betting OddsNCAA Football Betting Online: The Duke Blue Devils have never been a college football powerhouse, but coach David Cutcliffe had the team rolling recently. However, after four straight bowl berths the team took a step back in 2016, finishing with only four victories and just one in conference.

Duke has the majority of its key players returning on offense, but needs to improve on that side of the ball. The secondary had issues as well and the Blue Devils need to shore up multiple areas on their team in order to get back into the bowl game discussion.

Duke will aim to get some serious mileage out of quarterback Daniel Jones, who threw for 2,836 yards with 16 touchdowns against nine interceptions last year. He is the unquestioned starter, and if he can improve on those numbers it should help the offense. Cutcliffe is known for his ability to find solid signal-callers and Jones looks to be in that vein.

Shaun Wilson should once again be the main running back, although he is unspectacular. The Blue Devils should have a solid linebacking corps, but the defensive line loses some key players and a secondary which was torched near the end of last season needs to buckle down against some potent passing attacks on the schedule.

Cutcliffe was really able to resurrect the Duke program, one that captured only four combined wins in the four seasons before he took over. The Blue Devils went 10-4 in 2013, 9-4 in 2014 and 8-5 in 2015 before taking the step back last year.

The ACC has a lot of good teams, and it’s going to be an uphill battle for Duke on the season. The Blue Devils’ win projection sits right near the line of bowl eligibility. While Duke will likely struggle in conference play, it will aim to pull out enough wins in order to get back to the postseason.

While the personnel may not look overwhelming, Jones is a promising quarterback while Cutcliffe is a proven coach, which should give Duke a shot at a turnaround in 2017.
