NCAA Football Temple Owls Betting OddsNCAA Football Betting Online: It’s a golden era for Temple Owls football. The long downtrodden program has noticed a considerable uptick in its fortunes over the last decade thanks to some great coaching moves. Al Golden put Temple on the back before leaving for Miami and Steve Addazio kept the program steady during his time in Philly. The Owls reached new heights when Matt Rhule came to town though and now the team must replace the most successful coach in school history.

There’s no secret to what Temple wants to do on the offensive side of the ball. Run, run, and run some more. That’s what every coach has tried to do at Temple has done since Al Golden and Geoff Collins should be more of the same. The Owls have four starting offensive linemen returning and RB Ryquell Armstead is a bull that can carry the day.

Collins was a defensive coordinator at Tulane, Mississippi State, and Florida before taking over as head coach at Temple. He is known for advocating an aggressive style of defense and this Owls team will take some chances. They should be solid against both the run and the pass and need to be good against both to contend for a title in the American.

Temple’s Super Bowl will come early on when the Owls get to face Notre Dame. The Owls nearly beat Notre Dame two seasons ago, with the Irish needing a late drive with two minutes remaining to pull out the win. Although Temple is replacing quite a bit, Notre Dame is replacing even more and is vulnerable to an early season loss.

The conference schedule is a little unfortunate for the Owls. They have to play South Florida, Houston, and East Carolina in consecutive weeks. If they can get through that stretch unscathed though, they should be the favorite in the American.

For a program that has been around for as long as Temple has, the team has experienced very little success. The Owls went to the Sugar Bowl in 1934, but after that didn’t make a bowl again until they made the Garden State Bowl.

That 1979 season was the highpoint for Temple football during the 21st Century. It marked the only 10-win season in school history, until 2015, and gave the Owls their lone bowl win of last century.

Temple is now one of the more successful programs in the AAC. The Owls have made a bowl game in four of the last eight years and posted back-to-back 10-win seasons in Rhule’s last two years. Collins should be able to make it three bowl appearances in a row with this team, but it’s hard to imagine him having the same success as Rhule in Year One.
