Head coach Todd Haley arrived at Tampa Bay with a good share of excitement. Haley developed a good reputation in the NFL as an effective offensive coordinator. But as the USFL season progressed, Haley proved incapable of getting things off the ground. Tampa Bay finished as one of the most disappointing teams in the USFL. And Haley reminded fans why the Pittsburgh Steelers fired him as offensive coordinator. Now there are questions as to if the game has passed Haley by.

2022 Tampa Bay Bandits USFL Season Recap

The Tampa Bay finished with a final record of four wins and six losses. That was good for 3rd place in the USFL South Division.

Tampa Bay was never able to develop a consistent passing attack. The Bandits finished 5th in the USFL for passing game efficiency. The running game was even worse, ranking 6th in the league. Defensively the Bandits finished 5th for the fewest points allowed. Tampa Bay ranked 5th in the USFL for total defense, 6th against the pass, and 5th against the pass.

Following eight weeks of play, the Bandits were 4-4 and in a position to gain a wild card spot. In week nine, Tampa Bay met the New Orleans Breakers in the season's most important game. The Breakers choked off the Bandits 17-6 to eliminate Tampa Bay from the postseason.

Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu had his moments this year but was never able to develop into a reliable threat. Ta’amu finished with a 120.3 QB rating in the 2022 season. Ta’amu completed 57% of his passes for 201.5 yards per game and a total of 2015 yards. Ta’amu threw for 6.7 yards per attempt with 14 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions. He was sacked 25 times for 182 yards.

Ta’amu was also the leading rusher for the Bandits. Ta’amu ran for 365 yards on 59 carries for 5.9 yards per rush and one touchdown. Juwan Washington was the top producer at running back. Washington ran for 299 yards on 92 carries. He averaged just 3.3 yards per carry with three touchdowns.

Derrick Dillon led the Bandits in receiving with 28 catches good for 386 y6ards and four touchdowns. Dillon averaged 13.8 yards per catch. And then Cheyenne O’Grady added 32 catches for 371 yards with 11.6 yards per catch and two touchdowns.

Tampa Bay Bandits Week 10 Recap

In week ten, the Birmingham Stallions defeated the Tampa Bay Bandits 21-18 as 3.5-point favorites, with the game going under the total of 41.5.

Birmingham outgained the Bandits 379 to 285 in total yards. The Stallions had a 33:39 to 26:21 time of possession advantage. Birmingham extended its edge on the ground with 128 to 68 yards. The Stallions were able to overcome four turnovers in their win.

Alex McGough played his first game at quarterback for the Stallions and was 14/25 for 183 yards with 7.3 yards per pass with one touchdown and one interception with a 75.9 rating.

CJ Marable led the Stallions in rushing with 47 yards on eight carries with 5.9 yards per rush and one touchdown. Sage Surratt was the top Stallion receiver with three catches, 60 yards, and 20 yards per catch. Adrian Hardy added three catches and 46 yards. At the same time, CJ Marable caught four passes for 39 yards.

Tampa Bay quarterback Jordan Ta’amu finished with 17/33 passing, 225 yards, and 6.8 yards per pass, with two touchdowns and one interception. His rating in the game was 81.0. Ta’amu led a dismal Tampa Bay ground game with 22 yards rushing on four attempts. Derrick Dillon was the Bandits leading receiver with four receptions, 94 yards, and one touchdown.
