With the 2022 NFL Draft now in the rearview mirror, I thought it would be a good time to see how the betting markets reacted to what all 30 front offices did through the weekend. To do that, I took a look at what the odds to win Super Bowl LVII were at online sportsbooks heading into the draft and compared them to what they looked like early Monday morning. With front offices throwing absurd big money contracts at wide receivers this past offseason, it’s become quite clear just how important the position is in this day and age of the NFL. As such, I’m thinking a healthy amount of pass catchers will be going off the board in the first round of 2022 NFL Draft betting. When I touted the over of 5.5 wide receivers going off the board in the first round last week, the vig at online sportsbooks attached to the high side of the impost clocked in at an eye-opening -180. Fast forward a week and it now stands at an alarming -280! I hope you locked you locked that wager in when suggested. Current drafty position odds relay the idea that the first wide receiver coming off the board will be either Ohio State’s Garrett Wilson or USC’s Drake London with both players’ draft position clocking in at 10.5. I personally believe the former is the better choice, and the recent odds movement dictates as such. No joke, another 60 cents was added to the vig on the under of Wilson’s draft position prop as I wrote this article. Come draft day, it wouldn’t shock me if the Buckeyes premiere pass catcher made a mockery of the impost regardless! ... 

Last year’s NFL draft was loaded with high-end quarterback talent evidenced by five of the first 15 picks coming from the position. An area of weakness in the draft class came up front on the edges of the defensive line. It took until pick No. 12 for an edge rusher to get selected. It was none other than Micah Parsons who would go on to rejuvenate the Dallas Cowboys defense and win some hardware along the way. A bulk of my position total pre-draft wagers has forced me to lay a ton of chalk to back the sides I like. That will once again be the case when it comes to the total amount of quarterbacks drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Online sportsbooks currently have the under of 3.5 players juiced at a whopping -335. Last year’s draft saw five QBs snagged in the first round. The number to beat then was lined at 4.5. NFL bettors that hit the over of that prop were able to cash in after Roger Goodell announced the first 15 selections. Personally, I’m not sure this year’s QB crop will find five quarterbacks selected through the first two rounds! Make it a point to hunt out the best rate of return. If your out allows for buying these types of wagers up or down, buy the total QB prop down to three or 2.5 to set up more satisfying plus-money returns. It seriously wouldn’t shock me if only one field general was selected. At most, I foresee two going off the board over the course of the first 32 picks. ... 

Online sportsbooks aren’t leaving much leeway for NFL Draft bettors when it comes to attacking the betting prop of total wide receivers drafted in the first round. After watching what Ja’Marr Chase and Jaylen Waddle were able to do in their rookie campaigns a season ago, you know darn well front offices across the league will be hell-bent on acquiring the next major difference maker at the premiere pass catching position. And wouldn’t you know it; the 2022 NFL Draft is loaded with playmakers at the position enough to the point that I think the total number of pass catchers acquired in the opening round surpasses the current impost with relative ease. And of course, we’re going to need to lay a decent sized amount of chalk - which only seems to be rising - in order to cash that ticket in. While the opening round is going to hear the names of many offensive linemen and defensive secondary players called out, there’s plenty of room still made available for teams to cash in at wide receiver as well. If you agree with hitting the over of this prop, I’d do so now since the number to beat is likely to continue getting juiced or bumped up to six. ... 

Ed Reed, Ronnie Lott, Brian Dawkins; the more recent safety trio is considered to be one of the best to ever buckle a chin strap at the NFL level. Then there’s the second tier that includes Steve Atwater, John Lynch, and Eric Berry. Is the DNA of those players entrenched in the genome of a player looking to land a gig in the NFL for 2022? That doesn’t look to be the case when going by the current odds of total safeties drafted in the first round at online sportsbooks. Those booking prop bets for... 

The offensive side of the ball was represented well in last year’s NFL Draft with 18 players being selected in the first round. Though the first round of last year’s NFL Draft only saw 14 players selected, no team was happier to see that run of quarterbacks go down from picks 1-11 than the Dallas Cowboys. Because of it, Penn State’s Micah Parsons ultimately fell in Jerry Jones’s lap; the rest was history. Parsons proved to be a one man wrecking crew whose efforts dramatically improved Big Ds performance on the defensive side of the ball. While cornerback isn’t the flashiest of positions that gets NFL Draft bettors’ juices flowing, it’s arguably the most important defensive position in this day and age of the NFL. As tough it is to play any sort of competitive defense with the NFL now predominantly a passing league, team’s that trot a stud cover man onto the field always have an edge going into any matchup. While fantasy football players are mostly concerned with what’s going down at the quarterback, running back and wide receiver positions, it’s the offensive line that allows for the Jonathan Taylor’s of the world to rack up all that yardage. It also allows for gunslingers like Justin Herbert to throw for all those touchdowns. Just ask the Chargers QB1 how he felt about upper management’s decision to select Rashawn Slater with the No. 13 pick in last year’s draft! He was one of five offensive linemen that were drafted in the first round of last year’s draft, and nearly all of them made impacts in their rookie campaigns. The O-Line is basically the straw that stirs the drink, and the 2022 NFL Draft is chock full of hogs expected to be selected over the course of the first 32 selections. The Los Angeles Rams had a better regular season record and will host the NFC Championship, but they have to clear a mental block against their division rival San Francisco 49ers to advance to Super Bowl LVI. Two of LA’s five losses were to the Niners, extending their overall losing streak in the series to six. The Rams could have avoided this matchup by taking care of business in the regular season finale however they let a 17-point lead slip away in a 27-24 setback that allowed the Niners to reach the postseason. After their dramatic comeback overtime win over Buffalo last week you might expect the Kansas City Chiefs to have a letdown. Somehow I doubt that will happen with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line in their AFC Championship matchup against the upstart Cincinnati Bengals. Patrick Mahomes and the KC offense are clicking having scored 42 points in each of their two playoff wins. And they will need another outburst against the Bengals, who handed the Chiefs their only loss in the past 12 games with a 34-31 decision in Week 17. The Chiefs are hosting the conference title game for a fourth straight season and are a 7-point favorite to advance to their third consecutive Super Bowl. ... 

To be the best you gotta beat the best. That’s what the Buffalo Bills face when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship. KC won the conference title for a second straight season with their 38-24 victory. Both teams had an easy time in the wild card round with Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes directing potent offensive attacks.
