NFL Week 1 Ugly Dog Picks - Football Lines

NFL Week 1 Ugly Dog Picks

The first week of the 2022 NFL regular season is upon us and it is time to once again look at ugly dog picks. Some of the best bets in the NFL each week are oftentimes wagers on teams that are considered the worst in the league. If you want to win money betting NFL games then you need to be willing to take teams no one else wants to bet. We refer to these teams as ugly dogs and you really have to hold your nose sometimes when you bet on them, but history has shown that going against the public works. The 2021 season was definitely an anomaly, as for the first time in recent memory, the ugly dog picks did not have a winning record. If history holds true, the 2022 season should be a major bounce back for these picks. Let’s look at the Week 1 Ugly Dog picks.

Week 1 Ugly Dog Picks

Let me point out one fact that you are probably already aware of. When you bet these games, you are usually better off waiting until Sunday morning to make your wagers because you will probably get a better number than what I list from earlier in the week.

New York Jets +7 vs. Baltimore Ravens

The Jets are still expected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL this season and in Week 1 they are not even sure who is going to play quarterback. Starter Zach Wilson has been practicing, but his status for this week is up in the air. It appears Joe Flacco will get the start. Either way, the Jets figure to have trouble moving the ball against the Baltimore defense. On the other side, the Ravens look to be poised for a bounce back season. Lamar Jackson and the offense should have no trouble moving the ball against a weak New York defense. The first of our ugly dog picks this week is on the Jets plus the points.

Chicago Bears +7 vs. San Francisco 49ers

The Bears are catching a full touchdown at home in their opener against the 49ers. Chicago still appears to be in rebuilding mode and they are hoping that Justin Fields is their franchise quarterback. The jury is still out on Fields, but many people in Chicago still believe he is their guy. On the other side, the 49ers are hoping that Trey Lance is their franchise quarterback. They have put their future in his hands even though they did bring back Jimmy Garoppolo at a much lower price. The 49ers are getting a lot of respect from the oddsmakers in this game considering they have an unproven quarterback under center. We’ll go with the Bears as an ugly dog in Week 1 NFL odds.

Houston Texans +8 vs. Indianapolis Colts

One of the teams that is expected to struggle for much of the season is the Houston Texans. They have problems on both sides of the ball. Davis Mills had some good moments for the Texans at quarterback and he may actually be the least of their problems this season. The Houston defense is really bad and they don’t figure to stop many people this season. The Colts put their immediate future in the hands of Matt Ryan and Indianapolis is getting a lot of early season hype. It may be too much hype and laying big points on the road in the NFL is never easy. We’ll go with the Texans plus the points as an ugly dog.

Seattle Seahawks +6.5 vs. Denver Broncos

Did you ever think the Seahawks would appear as an ugly dog? Seattle traded away Russell Wilson to Denver and now the Seahawks are stuck with Geno Smith or Drew Lock at quarterback. It is likely to be a long year in Seattle. Not only does the offense look weak, the defense last season was one of the worst in the NFL. The Seahawks are at home and they will have a big crowd, but bettors have been taking the Broncos. We’ll go against the public and take the Seahawks as an ugly dog.
