Chitu Kentucky Derby Betting OddsKentucky Derby Betting: It's another year at the races, and that means there are plenty of great events to beat the horse racing odds on as the road to the Triple Crown finally wraps up. Today, we are set to look at the 2014 Kentucky Derby here at BookMaker Sportsbook, and to do that, we'll look at one of the many contenders for the race, Chitu.

The 2014 Kentucky Derby takes place on Saturday, May 3rd at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. This is one of the many fantastic races of the year, and it goes to post at approximately 6:24 p.m. ET. Chitu is hoping to be in this field of 20, which will take to the dirt in one of the biggest races of the year on the horse racing odds. The Derby can be seen live on NBC.

The biggest question on the horse racing betting odds, perhaps in the entire Kentucky Derby, is whether or not Chitu is going to have the goods to run up against the biggest and best competition in the Sport of Kings.

Chitu has an impressive resume. He has three wins in four races to his credit, and the one race where he was second best, he did so to Candy Boy at the Robert B. Lewis Stakes. It was a game effort on his part, but Candy Boy was just slightly better on that day. It definitely wasn't a damning case whatsoever for Trainer Bob Baffert, who has really lightly raced Chitu in his career.

Chitu only ran his maiden race at BetFair Hollywood Park on December 13th as a two-year old, but he was amazing that day, running a 95 Beyer Speed Rating, taking the advantage from the get go, and waltzing to victory from there. He was an odds on favorite at an allowance race just after Christmas, and the only time he wasn't the big favorite on the horse racing gambling odds was at the Robert B. Lewis Stakes as we mentioned previously.

The race that put Chitu in the Kentucky Derby though, was the Sunland Derby at Sunland Park. He ran up against a much better field than a Grade 3 race would have insinuated, including Midnight Hawk and Commissioner, and he put the field away with ease, winning by 2 1/4 lengths. It is clear that Jockey Martin Garcia is going to have Chitu in good position early, and if that's the case, he'll end up being in a nice spot to try to win at Churchill Downs.

The question that we go back to though, is whether or not the best of the best will be stunning Chitu. He has never run up against a field of 10, let alone 20 horses, and though the Sunland Derby did provide a good challenge, it wasn't the best field in the world. Ponies like California Chrome, who will be the heavy favorites on the horse racing wagering odds at the Kentucky Derby, have never run up against Chitu and vice versa, and with this just being the fifth race of his career, that makes Chitu one of the real wild cards of this race.
