Classic Giacnroll Kentucky Derby Betting OddsKentucky Derby Betting: There is no race in the world like the Run for the Roses, and there is no tougher task in horse racing than picking winners on the Kentucky Derby lines. We're helping you out today at BookMaker Sportsbook, as we continue breaking down all of the main contenders for this race, as we dissect the chances that Midnight Hawk has in the first leg of the Triple Crown.

On Saturday, May 3rd at 6:24 p.m. ET, NBC will have its live television coverage of the 2014 Kentucky Derby. Midnight Hawk is one of the many contenders who could claim glory that day, and he is hoping to be the one who hits the line first and beats the Kentucky Derby lines at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY.

Midnight Hawk is one of these horses who feels like he can beat the Kentucky Derby betting lines, but there just isn't enough really tangible evidence there to support that based the one that he has finished races.

Trainer Bob Baffert has gobs of three-year olds who are capable of beating the Kentucky Derby gambling lines this year as well, and he very well could take the approach of spreading his ponies out amongst the Triple Crown races. With some training, Midnight Hawk is likely to be a contender for the Preakness Stakes, though we have to think that he is going to end up being left out of the Triple Crown all together if he doesn't, knowing that distance really hasn't been his thing.

Midnight Hawk has run in five stakes race this year, making him one of the most raced three-year olds in the world. He finished in the money of all of those races, though his only win was the 1-mile Sham Stakes over a relatively weak Grade 3 field. Beyond that, there was a lot of promise at Santa Anita Race Course at both the Robert B. Lewis Stakes and the San Felipe Stakes, but finishing third and second in those two races respectively caused Baffert to take him out of California and move him elsewhere.

The next stop was the Sunland Derby, and for our money, we think that Midnight Hawk ran well with just 15 days plus travel between his races. He was always second best to Chitu that day, marking the third time he had been bested by a horse destined to be a favorite on the Kentucky Derby wagering lines. Midnight Hawk was beaten by California Chrome at the San Felipe Stakes and Candy Boy at the Robert B. Lewis Stakes.

There probably wasn't much hope at that point to enter Midnight Hawk into the Derby anyway, but his run at the Illinois Derby sealed the deal. It isn't all that often that colts run at the Illinois Derby and then go to Churchill Downs, but Midnight Hawk was going to take a stab at it had he won that race. Instead, the win and the points went to Dynamic Impact in an awfully good race by a number in the field. Now, we have to imagine that, in spite of all of those second and third place finishes, Midnight Hawk is going to end up on the sidelines.
