Medal Count Kentucky Derby Betting OddsKentucky Derby Betting: There is no race in the world like the Run for the Roses, and there is no tougher task in horse racing than picking winners on the Kentucky Derby lines. We're helping you out today at BookMaker Sportsbook, as we continue breaking down all of the main contenders for this race, as we dissect the chances that Medal Count has in the first leg of the Triple Crown.

On Saturday, May 3rd at 6:24 p.m. ET, NBC will have its live television coverage of the Kentucky Derby. Medal Count is one of the many contenders who could claim glory that day, and he is hoping to be the one who hits the line first and beats the Kentucky Derby lines at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY.

It literally took every last stride that Medal Count had to get the chance to compete on the Kentucky Derby betting lines, but he has gotten the job done and is going to be at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Medal Count only amassed 40 Derby Points on the road to the Kentucky Derby, but those points were good enough to get here, just barely. Had Medal Count ended up falling behind Pablo Del Monte in the Blue Grass Stakes in the final strides, it would have been questionable as to whether he would have gotten into the field.

And then of course, comes the question as to whether it is going to matter or not. Medal Count really hasn't had the best career, as the only time he was a winner in a graded stakes race was on the first day of Spring racing at Keeneland Park, a win at the Transylvania Stakes. However, that race came against a field without a single contender on the Kentucky Derby gambling lines in it, and that brings up the questions about the degree of competition which Medal Count has faced.

Keeneland Park didn't house the best three-year olds this year as best as we can tell, and that was made clear in the Blue Grass Stakes. Yes, Dance With Fate is going to be one of the more touted horses in this field, but Pablo Del Monte didn't make the cut, meaning that Dance With Fate and Medal Count are the only two representing the home state of Kentucky this year in Louisville.

The big concern we have for Medal Count is the way that he raced at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita Park last November. It just wasn't a good day whatsoever for Medal Count, as he really never got into position, was shoved back early, and he faded as things progressed to finish 11th, 17 lengths off of the pace of the winner, New Year's Day. That being said, there has been a lot of racing since that point, and perhaps this time around, things will be different.

Medal Count might have a slightly better chance than most on the Kentucky Derby wagering lines because he has run up against some larger fields in his career. He has run up against three fields of at least 13 ponies, and though that's small in relation to the 20 that will get saddled on Saturday, it's more than most of have seen time and time again.
