Danza Kentucky Derby Betting OddsKentucky Derby Betting: The road to the Triple Crown is officially on, and the action on the horse racing lines is going to be taking center stage here at BookMaker Sportsbook. Join us today as we break down one of the many Kentucky Derby hopefuls, Danza!

Some of the best horses in the world are set to give it a go in the biggest race the Sport of Kings has to offer. Today at BookMaker Sportsbook, we'll give you the heads up on Danza, one of the horses who could be running in the 2014 Kentucky Derby. The horse racing lines for the first leg of the Triple Crown will come off the board on Saturday, May 3rd, at 6:24 p.m. ET. NBC will have coverage of this duel of 20 horses from Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY.

Trainer Todd Pletcher knows what he is doing to beat the horse racing betting lines, and he has had a heck of a lot of success winning with ponies which he doesn't run all that often as two-year olds and three-year olds. Danza might be the next in a long line of successful horses which Pletcher has trained.

Danza only ran in July and August as a two-year old, and he really wasn't all that impressive at that point. He won his maiden race in his first try as a comfortable favorite, but as a 14 to 1 underdog, he only finished third in a seven-horse field at the Saratoga Special the next month. That was a Grade 2 race and figured to be a bit ahead of what Danza was capable of. He did run a 96 Beyer Speed Rating that day, but he also didn't run again until March.

The key for Pletcher was to get his colt into one of the big races in April to give Danza a shot to make it to the Kentucky Derby. He ran Danza in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park in March, only to watch him finish third, seven lengths off of the pace. In spite of that, Pletcher took Danza to Oaklawn Park to run in the Arkansas Derby. That day, Danza was a monstrous 41 to 1 underdog with Jockey Joe Bravo on his back for the first time. Every step of the way, even the announcer for the race was expecting Danza to give way to Bayern or Ride On Curlin or one of the other big time ponies in that field. However, with every stride, Danza got stronger and stronger, and he ultimately won the race by 4 3/4 lengths. The 100 points earned him the right to race for the bed of roses at Churchill Downs, though he will clearly be one of the longer shots on the board on the horse racing gambling lines.

What we do know about Danza is that he isn't going to be in fantastic position to get the job done out of the blocks. He'll have to avoid trouble in the Kentucky Derby if he wants to ultimately have a shot at the end. That kick he showed at the end of the Arkansas Derby though, probably still won't be enough to beat the horse racing wagering lines.
