Pablo del Monte Kentucky Derby Betting OddsKentucky Derby Betting: It's another year at the races, and that means there are plenty of great events to beat the horse racing odds on as the road to the Triple Crown finally wraps up. Today, we are set to look at the 2014 Kentucky Derby here at BookMaker Sportsbook, and to do that, we'll look at one of the many contenders for the race, Pablo Del Monte.

The 2014 Kentucky Derby takes place on Saturday, May 3rd at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. This is one of the many fantastic races of the year, and it goes to post at approximately 6:24 p.m. ET. Pablo Del Monte is hoping to be in this field of 20, which will take to the dirt in one of the biggest races of the year on the horse racing odds. The Derby can be seen live on NBC.

Third place finishes in major stakes races are generally good enough to at least keep a three-year old in the running for the Kentucky Derby, but in this case, it probably isn't quite going to be enough on the horse racing betting odds for Pablo Del Monte. He was the third place finished at the Hutcheson Derby and the Blue Grass Stakes in February and April respectively, and though he is on the cut line for the Run for the Roses, we have to wonder if he is even going to be making an appearance in the Triple Crown if he doesn't run at Churchill Downs in May.

Trainer Wesley Ward hasn't had all that much in the way of success for the most part at this level, and this really was never going to be a colt who would have seriously contended at the Derby on the horse racing gambling odds anyway. The breeding is there, as Giant's Causeway and One Hot Wish do make for at least a reasonably well-bred duo.

That being said, there isn't all that much here to like. Pablo Del Monte won the first race of his career as a very young two-year old, running 4 1/2 furlongs in just 51.6 seconds. That was a blazing pace at the time, and there were definitely high hopes for him. He went on to win an allowance race six months later at Keeneland Park, but when he moved to BetFair Hollywood Park on the other coast and moved up in class to a Grade 3 race and up in distance to a full mile, he placed out of the money in fifth.

However, the hope was there for Pablo Del Monte still based upon that awesome start to his career. He was fourth best at the Gulfstream Park Derby on New Year's Day, but he didn't exactly get a clean run in a sloppy race by all.

Even the power rankings for Pablo Del Monte don't really rank out all that high. He was a 12 to 1 longshot at the Blue Grass Stakes, and he ultimately ended with a rating of just 5.92, a far cry off of what we would come to expect in the 8.00 range of colts which are serious contenders at this level on the horse racing wagering odds.
