Kentucky Derby Betting: One of the longest shots on the board this Saturday is Instilled Regard. The horse had the least points of any of the horses taking part in the Kentucky Derby, earning just 29 points in the lead-up to Saturday.
It took Instilled Regard three times before he finally won his maiden race. After winning his maiden, he was immediately thrust into a Grade 1 Stakes race, entering the Cash Call Futurity Stakes as a longshot behind Solomini and McKinzie. He hung tough with the two favored horses and was awarded second-place after Solomini initiated too much contact with the other two horses down the stretch.
He followed that performance up with an impressive showing at the Lecomte Stakes, besting Lone Sailor and Snapper Sinclair to win the race. Unfortunately, that was the last time he hit the board.
Instilled Regard finished in fourth-place at the Risen Star Stakes, getting nipped at the line by Noble Indy. In his last race prior to the Kentucky Derby, he again finished fourth. He was more than 10 lengths behind Justify and almost eight lengths behind Bolt d’Oro.

Arch is Instilled Regard’s sire and his dam is Enhancing. Instilled Regard is one of Arch’s last progeny, and he is looking to be the first of his line to win at the Derby.
The horse’s trainer is Jerry Hollendorfer. Hollendorfer has failed to win in six previous Kentucky Derby attempts. He had his best performance last year, when Battle of Midway finished in third-place.
Drayden Van Dyke will be the jockey for Instilled Regard. This will be his first time at the Kentucky Derby.
Why Instilled Regard Will Win the Kentucky Derby
This horse has fantastic speed numbers for having such long odds. He has posted at least a 95 in each of his last four races, and he has cracked triple digits in two of those four races. You can’t totally write off a horse with that much speed.

The big question with Instilled Regard is whether or not he can go the distance. An extra eighth of a mile can be a lot to ask, and he looked like he was out of gas at the Santa Anita Derby.

At 80-1, betting on Instilled Regard is not a terrible idea. While he is very unlikely to win, there is some value in him at this price.
