NFL Offensive Player of the Year Betting Online
With quarterbacks getting all the attention when it comes to the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award, other positional players are in line for the league’s Offensive Player of the Year honor. Last season Saquon Barkley was tabbed the winner by all three outlets becoming the sixth straight non-QB to win the award. Barkley was an easy pick after becoming the ninth player in NFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season. Barkley opened as the betting favorite to win the 2025 award, and if he does he would be the first repeat winner since Marshall Faulk won three in a row from 1999-2001.

The top of the futures odds board is congested with the top 10 favorites all opening with shorter than 16/1 odds. Barkley has a slight nod over Ja’Marr Chase and Jahmyr Gibbs to become the first repeat winner since the early 2000s. Chase is one of several wide receivers on the list, which is notable since only five times has the position won the award. Until 2019 when Michael Thomas earned the honor, Jerry Rice was the only wide receiver to win, doing so in 1987 and 1993.
Three of the wide receivers to win the award did so in the last six seasons starting with Thomas’ record breaking 2019 campaign when he caught 149 passes. Cooper Kupp and Justin Jefferson went back-to-back in 2021 and 2022. The last QB to be named Offensive Player of the Year was Patrick Mahomes in the 2018 season.

The annual award has been handed out by three different outlets since 2008. In the 17 years since only seven players were named by all three. The AP, Pro Football Writers Association (PFWA) and The Sporting News all named Barkley in 2024 after he amassed the eighth highest single season rushing yard total in NFL history. Barkley finished well ahead of Lamar Jackson and Ja’Marr Chase in the AP poll, which is officially recognized by the NFL.
The second overall pick by the Giants in the 2018 NFL draft, Barkley excelled in his first season with the Eagles rushing for 2,005 yards and accounting for nearly 35 percent of his teams scrimmage yards. He rushed for at least 150 yards five times in 16 regular season games. Barkley is the 26th running back to win the award and second in a row following Christian McCaffrey in 2023.
A lot of running backs have their careers cut short due to injury, so this list of recent winners is like a trip down memory lane. Priest Holmes and Chris Johnson were excellent for brief periods, and DeMarco Murray had one superb season in Dallas. It’s a shame that LaDainian Tomlinson only won this award one time, as he was exceptional in nine seasons with the San Diego Chargers, running for 12,490 yards and 138 touchdowns.

The only two players to be named Offensive Player of the Year three times did it in consecutive seasons. Marshall Faulk was the most dangerous offensive weapon in the league with the Greatest Show on Turf and was named NFL OPOY in 1999, 2000, and 2001. The St. Louis Rams brought offenses into the current era, and Faulk was a big part of that as a running back who ran for over 1,300 yards with at least 80 receptions in four straight seasons.
Earl Campbell only spent eight seasons in the NFL before his body broke down, but he was a dominant running back. The ‘Tyler Rose’ led the NFL in rushing for each of his first three seasons, and he was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year in each of those years. Campbell was so dominant that he was named to the All-1970s Team even though he played just two seasons in the decade.
