2019 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Overview
The 2019 NFL season is one of the most highly anticipated in history and with plenty of good reason. There are a multitude of great players that were drafted last spring including several potential difference makers on the defensive side of the line. In particular Devin White, Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams, and Devin Bush are going to be popular choices with the pro football betting public.
Linebacker Devin White - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
LSU linebacker Devin White is a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. White was the fifth player taken in the draft. And if there is anything that last year’s 5-11 Tampa Bay team needs is an impact player on defense. White certainly fills the bill as the 2018 Butkus Award winner and a consensus All American. In addition to that White was All SEC for the past two seasons. All told when you are arguably the best defensive player in the best college conference in football you command immediate respect.
Defensive End Nick Bosa – San Francisco 49ers
Going in the first round as the second overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft was Ohio State Buckeyes standout defensive end Nick Bosa. Bosa actually should be well rested having played only three games last year after dominating, particularly as a sophomore in 2017. In that 2017 season Bosa was named first team All-Big Ten as well as the Smith Brown Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year. It was that season that punched his ticket and helped him stay in top five overall status despite missing most of last season.
Defensive End Quinnen Williams – New York Jets
Perhaps the most unfortunate contender for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year is Quinnen Williams, who made his fame as a defensive end for the University of Alabama. As a star for the top college program in the country a transition to the most dysfunctional pro football team of all will be quite the culture shock. That being said, Williams won the 2018 Outland Trophy which proves his immense potential, even on the Jets.
Linebacker Devin Bush – Pittsburgh Steelers
Devin Bush was the tenth pick in the first round out of Michigan, where he was Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2018. Last year he was also a consensus All American. Bush as excellent blood lines as the son of former NFL safety Devin Bush Sr. In a stable organization like the Steelers, Bush has the potential to thrive.
